What are your thoughts on Judith and Judy. I really like it and it's similar to Meredith which I also really like.

I struggle to imagine it on a baby though as it seems an older woman name, but then there is a Judy on Paddington and that doesn't seem out of place.

I knew a Judith at uni. She'll be about 35 now. Jude was her nickname. She was studying theatre and was really funny and cool :D

I think it's a good name and not so much heard of these days.

Meredith I much prefer on a boy.

Hugasauras · 15/11/2022 18:56

DD2's middle name is Judy after my mum Smile She's a Judith but has always just been known as Judy so it felt more 'her' to use Judy in DD's name.

I think Judy is a pretty cool name nowadays. Definitely not overused and kind of spunky!

Hugasauras · 15/11/2022 18:57

We have a few Merediths round here. It seems to be of the same ilk as the Margots/Mabels etc, having a bit of a resurgence.

bigbluebus · 15/11/2022 19:02

I knew 2 Judith's when I was growing up - they'll both be in their late 50's now. It's not a name I've heard recently for anyone young but the trend has to start with someone!

Gummibär · 15/11/2022 19:15

Hi! 48 year old one here!
I feel like it's an old fashioned name, can't picture a baby Judith at all

You were a baby once too!

I think Judith is a lovely name and much nicer than the cutesy Ellies and Evies!

GobbledyGeek · 15/11/2022 19:17

A good strong name, very under-used.

Foxtrot101 · 15/11/2022 19:23

I went to school with a Judith, who would be 40 now. At the time is was a very dated name and she hated it. I think it's still a decade or so away from being vintage cool...

username8888 · 15/11/2022 19:23

I like Judith. It sounds sweet but strong. Judy is a bit boring

purser25 · 15/11/2022 19:25

I rather like it and Judy as well

AnybodyAnywhere · 15/11/2022 19:28

I’m a 1950’s born Judith but have always been known as Judi or Jude. It’s not a bad name to have but it’s been out of fashion for a long time, maybe it’s time has come again.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 15/11/2022 19:33

It's a beautiful, strong name. I am 56 and was at school with a Judith, and then later on did a HE course with a Judith (Jude) who will be about 52 now, and then worked with a Judith who will be about 46 now. So it's not just an "old" name. They were all lovely girls/women.

I also like Ruth and Edith - all the "th" sounds.

Spanielsarepainless · 15/11/2022 19:39

Lovely name. Not so keen on Judy though as I have known a few dogs with that name.

MassiveSalad22 · 15/11/2022 19:40

Absolutely love it and have only known nice Judiths. I think if you use it you’ll actually be ahead of your time - Judith is my parents’ generation (1950s/60s?) typically, so I think my grandchildren will have names from that era too.

Was thinking about this today. I already know two tiny Desmonds. I’m betting our grandchildren will be David, Rachel, Sarah etc

MassiveSalad22 · 15/11/2022 19:41

Meant to add, my point being, names seems to cycle around 80-100 year cycles don’t they? Current Audreys, Berts, Daphnes are either 80+ or under 10.

SophiaLarsen · 15/11/2022 19:42

Judith is a lovely name and it writes beautifully too. Prefer Jude to Judy as a nickname for it.

KnickerlessParsons · 15/11/2022 19:48

Love all names ending in th:
Judith
Ruth
Elizabeth
Meredith
Edith
Faith
etc

choirmumoftwo · 15/11/2022 20:07

It's my name (almost 58). I neither love or hate it, but I do think it suits me. It was never allowed to be shortened so I've never been anything other than a Judith. I don't like Jude or Judy.
I don't have a middle name but don't think a Judith needs one.

Yourloss · 15/11/2022 20:10

I don’t like it at all sorry. I do know a nice one.

Morielle · 15/11/2022 20:46

Absolute no

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/11/2022 21:09

I like Meredith a lot better but it’s alright

KnittingAuntie · 15/11/2022 21:53

We have a Judith in my family - it's a lovely uncomplicated name which, I think, has only one spelling. Our Judith married a guy from a European country and her married surname is extremely difficult to spell so I think it helps that her forename is so straightforward. She liked her name so much that she gave it to her eldest DD as a 2nd name.

When the film about Judy Garland was released we joked that her name would be really popular within a couple of years but that obviously didn't happen!!! Would be lovely if it made a comeback . . . . .

JanetSally · 15/11/2022 22:19

It's a lovely name and I really like Judy as well. I think those 40s/50s names will be back in fashion soon. People will get tired of Lilly and Edie and Ava and move on a generation.

FourChimneys · 15/11/2022 22:57

I really like Judith, it should ae a revival. I know two women called Judith, both are lovely people.

It is a refreshing change from all the Molly-Mae type names which are so common at the moment.

JudiJudyJude · 16/11/2022 14:13

I am a Judith but only called it now by my dad.
I was Judy/Judi in my teens and Jude from Uni onwards.
I only really like Jude and it feels more ‘me’ than any of the other shortenings.
I am in my mid fifties and have known a handful over the years.

JudiJudyJude · 16/11/2022 14:14

I often get ‘Hey Jude’ on emails etc which I am happy with as I like the song!
