Thoughts on Joel?

I am pg with DC2, I really like Joel for a boy. I saw someone's name pop up on the TV and I thought it would make a good name since it's a solid name yet probably not that common - any thoughts? X

Love it, one of my top 20.

Bumpy bump

I like it, but bear in mind that some people will say it as Jo-elle, some as Jole, and some as Joe-ul, and some people will think he's called Joe.

JennyForeigner · 13/11/2022 11:25

Always liked it. Cool but not try-hard.

Violettaa · 13/11/2022 11:34

I like it because it reminds me of the fabulous fabric shop Joel & Sons. I realise that’s niche, but it’s a good association!

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 13/11/2022 11:37

I like it. A refreshing change from Joseph.

Fivebeanchilli · 13/11/2022 11:40

I don't mind it. I'm not a huge biblical names fan but prefer Josiah or Joseph to Joel.
However it's a name everyone will recognise and it's not especially popular.

Hobbesmanc · 13/11/2022 11:46

Joel. Jake. Josh love them all although they are quite popular.

Also love Jerome.

Johnnysgirl · 13/11/2022 11:50

I like it.

Underawarmblanket · 13/11/2022 12:04

I really like it. It was on my boys names list. I’ve known 2 Joel’s in my life and both were lovely people too.

Are you serious?? 😂

Nobody will do that.

PortiasBiscuit · 13/11/2022 12:40

Love it.

FayCarew · 13/11/2022 13:49

@shiningstarr, of course not. Both Joels I know were lying to me about it.
You are right, and I am wrong. Silly me!

jackstini · 13/11/2022 13:50

I like it, know 2 - aged 16 & 22 - and they are lovely

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/11/2022 13:51

I love it, great name.

Hahaha I must say I think maybe a small child might question how to say the name if they were reading it for the first time but I'm not sure anyone else would pronounce is Jo-ul 😂

Sadly the name has been ruined for me as I went to primary school with a boy called Joel who always had the most disgusting runny nose. Think thick green snot running down his face.

The people they are on about are obviously not very bright.

Depends where you are from.
The Joel's I knew as I kid in North West England were definitely called Jo-ul by everyone.

pairofrollerskates · 13/11/2022 14:45

The only Joels I have ever met pronounced it Jo-ul. Scottish.

Roselilly36 · 13/11/2022 15:20

Joel is a lovely name

Kymy · 13/11/2022 15:43

My favourite boy's name

FayCarew · 13/11/2022 16:51

I say it as Joe-l/Jo-ul. The second syllable is very short.

VenusClapTrap · 13/11/2022 16:55

Refreshing change from Joseph and Josiah. There are unlikely to be any others in his class.

Kite22 · 13/11/2022 17:36

but I'm not sure anyone else would pronounce is Jo-ul

well, you'd be wrong then.
Very normal way to say Joel where I live.

I do like it as a name, but I'm not sure you mocking people's accents is going to win you any friends Hmm
