Nola, Laila, Juno

Little sister of Leo.

We love Laila, potentially spelt Layla but not Leila (think this will confuse people on pronunciation). We're white British but both dark. We like it due to the song plus it features in one of our favourite films. Would prefer a non-alliterative name with Leo but not put off too much by another L name

We also really like Nola, but enola gay, plus in laws who will raise eyebrows puts us off a bit. Like that it's not common and it's also the name of an album we love (which is named in honour of the New Orleans acronym)

Juno which I previously asked about, but think it sounds silly with Leo?

Middle name likely to be clementine as it's my favourite and husband doesn't like it but he's not arsed over middle names Grin Our surname is a bland, two syllable job and doesn't start with any of the same letters.

Your thoughts gratefully received!

Laila & Leo 🥰

Laila and Leo! Or maybe Layla (which is what autocorrect did)?

Squirrelsnut · 09/11/2022 12:08

Personally, I love Juno - if I'd had a girl, it would have been a strong contender. But I would have named her Juniper with Juno as the shortened form.

I like Layla too, Nola no.

AllyCatTown · 09/11/2022 12:20

I like Layla but with this spelling.

Purpleavocado · 09/11/2022 12:23

The song association with Layla puts me off, even though it's a nice name. I love Juno, I don't see a problem with it going with Leo. Not that keen on Nola, it does seem like a short version of Enola, and then you have the song....

OatFox · 09/11/2022 12:25

I have a Layla and much prefer the Layla spelling to Laila.

Rauha · 09/11/2022 12:26

I like Juno

KirstenBlest · 09/11/2022 14:03

I remember lads singing 'Lay her' to the Layla song. I'd say Laila to rhyme with Isla.
There are lots of L names popular now and Layla disappears into all the Lila/Lyra/Luna/Lola type names.
Nola is nice
Juno is the best and sounds less matchy-matchy than the others

Love Leo and Layla together (this is how I'd spell it) but you'd have to bear in mind that if you ever had a third child you'd probably need another L name or they'd be the odd one out.

You may also like Layna

I'm thinking of songs too as unfortunately loads are remixed or remade.

Thanks all. Interesting some replies saying Juno sounds fine with Leo :)

I like Layla and Leo 😊

I like Juno, Leo and Juno is ok - it’s matchy (but no more than Leo and Leila) it’s not totally OTT

Leila is quite nice. Leila is the usual spelling and it’s a popular name, don’t think it will confuse anyone. (Layla always seems a bit stripper to me, and Laila is just an odd spelling that will be a PITA for her).

Nola just makes me think of Ireland in the 70s/early 80s: blue eye shadow and boredom.

mathanxiety · 10/11/2022 00:12

I like Nola best.

Leo and Nola sound different enough to be individual names too. I think any version of Leila/ Layla, etc would be confusing with Leo.
