I love Jago. Not keen on Kitto.

LadyKenya · 07/11/2022 15:24

Jago is a nice name for a boy.

ofwarren · 07/11/2022 15:26

Jago, not Kitto

TheBirdintheCave · 07/11/2022 15:29

Jory (Cornish George) has always been my favourite Cornish boy's name. My husband is half Cornish so we may well still use it :)

bravelittletiger · 07/11/2022 15:30

Cato? I'm not sure Kitto is even a name?! Could you do Kit instead?

Milknosugarta · 07/11/2022 15:32

What about Cormoran?

NoDoor · 07/11/2022 15:33

i like Jago, Kitto sounds unfortunately to my non Cornish ear like you’re trying to say kitten and failing or a pet name for a cat

OohMrBingley · 07/11/2022 15:35

I don’t think a boy or grown man would thank you for calling him Kitto. Jago is fine.

SingingSands · 07/11/2022 15:35

Jago is a great name!

Jago is a nice name for a boy.

You'd really name your child after one of Shakespeare's most despicable villains? Yes, I know it's a different spelling, but still...

AmandaMirandaPanda · 07/11/2022 15:41

I know a Cornish Christopher who was Kitto as a child and teen and then Kit after leaving Cornwall for university. He now uses Kitto, Kit, and Christopher depending on the context. Kitto alone does somehow feel a bit more young, informal, unfinished than Jago to me (non-Cornish). Jago may also be more familiar outside Cornwall and internationally as it's also used in Spanish and German.

Jago is pronounced JAY-go though, not like Iago.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 07/11/2022 15:46

Mate, I'm Cornish - you can't call your DC Kitto, it sounds like a cat.

Tregarran? (Trig)
Trystan/Tristan?
Ruan?
Enyon?
Cador?

Kernowwench · 07/11/2022 15:49

Trust me kitto isn’t my idea haha. His other suggestion was Kenwyn which I also hate! I think this thread proves my point!

Thank god for that.

I'm not really familiar with Cornish names & obviously don't know your other kids names or your surname, but independently, from thise listed so far I like Ruan best.

is there a Cornish version of Ruary? I'd probably really like that

Kernowwench · 07/11/2022 15:54

I already have a Ruan it is fab!

ElizaSkye · 07/11/2022 15:55

Lowen, Cornish & means Joy

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 07/11/2022 15:56

Thank God its not your idea!

Umm. Kenver? I'm not particularly keen on it but if he wants a K name it's a bit better than Kenwyn.

I’m tempted to add Bodmin Trago and pasty in the mix just to wind him up a bit!

I'd love to know your other children's names. How is Ruan pronounced?

I like Kenwyn that sounds cool, kitto is a nice nn as a baby but agree would need Christopher as a full name.

Sennen is the only remotely cornish name I have heard.

Skylark1990 · 07/11/2022 16:06

Jago Ross is an awful character in the Cormoran Strike novels so puts me off but without that, its a nice name! Cormoran is also Cornish I think?
