I love Aoife but I just don't think it goes with the O'.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 06/11/2022 21:26

I think it sounds lovely

elizabethdraper · 06/11/2022 21:27

Very common irish first and surname

I actually know 2 aoife o,Neil's 😀

LizzieBet14 · 06/11/2022 21:28

Sounds lovely ❤️

Pollywoddles · 06/11/2022 21:29

Common in Ireland

mrsoneill · 06/11/2022 21:30

Ooooh okay. Maybe then!

I'm just not sure what else I like. I did like Maeve but my bf's baby will be Maeve. DH likes Niamh and I do like the two 'n's.

Not Irish but much prefer Aoife to Niamh with your surname.

caitlinrose · 06/11/2022 21:31

It's fine.

The only thing that would bother me is that it's a very generic combination as Aoife was so popular in Ireland and there'll probably be lots.

I like Aoife but if you choose it I would go for a more unusual middle name.

It's sort of like Emma Smith or Lisa Miller or something.

mrsoneill · 06/11/2022 21:35

We're actually in Liverpool so I'm not worried about pronunciation or anything, but I don't think it'd be as common. We just don't want anything already in the close family or our friendship group.

DressingGownSequins · 06/11/2022 21:37

How do you pronounce it?

Yesthatismychildsigh · 06/11/2022 23:15

No! It works beautifully.

DramaAlpaca · 06/11/2022 23:15

It's perfectly fine. I'm in Ireland and I know a couple of them. It's a nice combination.

@CircleofWillis Aoife is pronounced EE-fah.

SantaOnFanta · 06/11/2022 23:23

I would pronounce it A-ou-fee... It's that not right?

DramaAlpaca · 06/11/2022 23:25

@SantaOnFanta no! See my post above yours, it's an Irish language name and pronounced EE-fah.

Snugglemonkey · 06/11/2022 23:32

I think it is lovely, although Niamh is also lovely!

Thank you! I wouldn't have guessed that at all.

Thisisnotmyname2 · 06/11/2022 23:39

I love Erin for an Irish girl name but Aoife O'Neill is absolutely fine!

BrandyandGinger · 06/11/2022 23:44

I think it's a lovely name. There's a natural pause when you say it out loud between the fa sound of Aoife and the O sound. I think it's a classic Irish name too, it won't date.

Not even close! Ee-fah

Enko · 06/11/2022 23:50

Aoife is fine with your surname but Niamh O'Neil is really hard to say. I do love Niamh as a name. But not as much as Aoife..

AuntieDickhead · 07/11/2022 00:03

I actually love it. But then I love the name Aoife
I like Niamh as well, especially when my Irish friend says it. But I don't think it sounds as nice as Aoife with your surname.

CircleofWillis · 07/11/2022 07:13

I think it sounds lovely together.
