Hi,
I’m currently 8 months pregnant and my husband and I are stuck between the following names for our baby boy. Please can people comment their favourite.

-Kieryn
-Atticus
-Raffy
-Steo

I appreciate they are different but they are just our favourites.

thanks xx

Atticus or Rafael/Rafa

I’ve never heard of the name Steo.

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/10/2022 22:28

Atticus is great

Raffy is grand short for Raphael, Rafe or even Rafferty, but too babyish as a full name

Steo is really odd as a full name - it sounds like a lads group nickname. Is it your maiden name or something? Best as a middle name,, or use it has a nn for Stellan, Stephen or Struan, he is unlikely to appreciate explaining that for life.

-Kieryn - Ciaran or Kieran - it’s a bit 90s but it’s alright, without the dippy younique spelling

Squizzas · 25/10/2022 22:32

1Raffy (but would register it as Rafael)
2Atticus (quite a name to live up to)
3Kieryn
4 Steo ( not come across. Sounds like a nn for a Greek name?)

Agree Atticus is a 'big' name but it's interesting. Sometimes it's good to be different!
Not keen on Steo, Stee-oh or people may think Stay-oh, more European sounding. Could be a problem for pronunciation, when people first see it.
Raffy is cute, would you see your son as an adult being Raffy? may get shortened to Raff, which I like and isn't too cute for an adult.
Kieryn, nice, not common, not unusual, not overused, just prefer Kieran for spelling.
Have you thought what goes best with your surname?

Snugglemonkey · 25/10/2022 22:42

Kieryn- looks like an effort to be unique that mutates a lovely name
Raffy- a nickname
Steo- never heard before but looks nicknamish/made up
Atticus- I quite like

TheVanguardSix · 25/10/2022 22:47

Yes! As mentioned above: Don’t forget, you’re not just naming a baby but a 30 year old man down the road. Raffy on its own and Kieryn won’t age well. Kieran, on the other hand, will, as will Rafael/Raphael (Raffy or Rafa as a nn).
DS went to school with an Atticus. Lovely name. Great, in fact. Attie was his nn.
Explain Steo! I’m curious because it’s totally new to me.

Kindlethefourth · 25/10/2022 22:51

I am sure I have heard Ronan Keating refer to the late Stephen Gateley as Steo but that's the only time. I also want to sing 'Steo' to the tune of the advert for 'Trio' which you may be too young to remember.

KirstenBlest · 26/10/2022 08:57

Kieryn looks like a strange way of spelling Ciaran/Kieran/Kiran
Atticus - mum read one book at school
Raffy - riff-raffy
Steo - looks like a mix of Ste and Leo/Theo.

All dreadful.

KirstenBlest · 26/10/2022 09:42

Ste is short for Stephen where e grew up. Names like Tommo and Robbo tended to be nicknames for Thomas or Robert(s). Steo will sound like Steel in some areas.
With a name like Atticus, you'll probably find that the only other Atticus born that year in your county will be in the same class at school.

Margo34 · 26/10/2022 09:44

Atticus and Rafferty are on my boys name list too 😍

Never heard of your other 2 name choices and not particularly keen on either.

AuntieStella · 26/10/2022 09:47

I would depart slightly from your choices and go with Rafferty nn Raffy (or Rafa)

Then Kieran (I don't take to the odd spelling)

Then Atticus

I've never heard of Steo, and don't take to it, sorry

Aquamarine1029 · 26/10/2022 09:49

A very hard no for Raffy. It's awful. Your child would not thank you when they grow older.

ladycarlotta · 26/10/2022 15:37

I only know Steo as short for Stephen/Steven. It is very nicknamey on its own.
Ciaran or Kieran better than Kieryn.

Livingbestlife · 26/10/2022 15:44

From the list I like
Raffy
Although I do prefer Rafferty!!
(Its on my list) x
Second Atticus is great I like names which are not what you hear everyday
GOOD LUCK X

MooseBreath · 26/10/2022 16:44

Atticus.

The others are either misspelled or seem incomplete and wouldn't suit a grown man.

mauvish · 26/10/2022 21:21

-Kieryn ---- I quite like this, but don't make your child spend the rest of his life spelling it out, just stick with a normal spelling

-Atticus -- people say it's not common but it's becoming commoner isn't it? I don't like it at all, it definitely sounds like you're trying too hard. Is your surname Finch? Are you an ancient greek? WIll he live in an attic? No to all questions? Don't call him Atticus then.

-Raffy - agree with others, this is the nicest but give him a full version of the name and use Raffy as his nickname/baby name. He won't thank you for Raffy when he's trying to build up muscle in the gym age 22 -- But Rafael or Ralph would suit an adult better.

-Steo - Please. No. Just makes me think of steatorrhoea. Google that and you'll see why not.

Mumofgirls2017 · 26/10/2022 21:56
