Trying to figure out if I like this name for my little boy... Oscar who likes it?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oliver is far more overdone than Oscar 🙈

I loved the name Oscar for my son but he had the only surname I couldn't use it with 🙄

I love it. It works just as well for a baby as for a grown man and it's international enough to be recognised and pronounced right in most places.

Yep.
DH is from another EU country and we spend a lot of time in another EU country and it’s used in both of those too.
As for Oliver being less common there was only I Oscar in his Primary year group and 2 Oliver’s and it’s the same at Secondary

I like it. There are two in my sons year 1 class, we are South West England.

Oliver and Oscar are both early 2000 names that were fashionable and are both falling out of favour. To me they both sound overused and dated.

Have a look at names outside the top 100, perhaps there's some names you love that are less popular/fashionable?

I'm not mad keen and I know 3 all between about one and three (plus a late teen) all in my small city.

WolverineBlueyy · 30/10/2022 15:06

I have an Oscar and I don't think it would ever sound dated as it seems pretty classic to me. Popular around the world too, weather Irish, Latin American, Scandinavia etc so I think it's versatile!

If Oscar is a bit too overdone... how about Oliver?

You are having a laugh right?!!
😂

Love the name Oscar.... Unfortunately I let my daughter use it for one of our goats (thanks to big barn farm) so can't use it for my expected boy baby.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 14/11/2022 20:31

I'm Irish so it's a classic name to me. My brother is a 40-something Oscar. It's more of a faddy name in the UK though.

Gummibär · 14/11/2022 20:36

It feels very 2010s and will probably soon sound a little dated.
