What about this for a no frills girls’ name?

Benett
Occasionally posters have asked about no frills name with some history to it and I’ve seen Bennett was quite popular in the late Middle Ages, presumably as a feminine version of Benjamin and Benedict.
I rather like it and it may suit parents who favour surnamey first names. (Though the surname Bennett would have been derived from the given name to start with!)

I don't like it, doesn't matter if it was popular 600 years ago, it sounds like a surname.

Galarunner · 22/10/2022 17:13

I like it, it has a nice sound to it.

BlackberryCat · 22/10/2022 17:16

I just think Gordon Bennett. Sorry.

LadyWithLapdog · 22/10/2022 17:17

No. Benita is nicer.

AllPlayedOut · 22/10/2022 17:17

It sounds very masculine, like the American Surname type names which I generally like but not for a girl.

sopeas · 22/10/2022 17:18

I automatically thought of that beautiful tragic little girl Jon-Benét but would you be pronouncing it as Benn et or Ben ay?

LondonQueen · 22/10/2022 17:18

Sounds like a man's name.

toastofthetown · 22/10/2022 17:19

I'm not a huge fan. I'd assume a Bennett was a boy. I have a soft spot for Benjamina though.

Same here!

Meagainalready · 22/10/2022 17:29

I like it. Strong.

Hellocatshome · 22/10/2022 17:31

I would assume the child was a boy.

Sprig1 · 22/10/2022 17:42

Sounds like a shoe shop.

caramac04 · 22/10/2022 17:46

I like it

RandomMusings7 · 22/10/2022 17:54

First thought - JonBenét Ramsey

Second thought - way too masculine sounding

SpringIntoChaos · 22/10/2022 17:56

It's a surname now though, surely! Despite what it might or might not have been used as in the past, it's bloody awful as a girls name now ffs!

I agree. And not a nice boys name.

Jellybean23 · 22/10/2022 17:59

Sounds like a surname.

Vapeyvapevape · 22/10/2022 18:06

First thought Gordon , second thought Jon-Benet.

Love it.

I know two, spelled Bennett.

I'm in the US though, where naming of children is approached in a more free wheeling spirit than the UK.

HuntingoftheSnark · 22/10/2022 18:10

I like it.

mathanxiety · 22/10/2022 18:10

I also know a Campbell (girl). Yes, surnames, but they fit as girls' names.

quietnightmare · 22/10/2022 18:11

I prefer benifer
