Help me pick from these, or please offer other suggestions you think I might like!

Vivian*
Marion
Josephine
Harriet
Greta
Tilda

Thanks a lot :)

  • please no comments that this is the "male" spelling, this is the spelling I like and I'm not bothered about gender-specific spelling at all!

I like them all. I think Marion is underused and a good strong name.

I absolutely love Greta.

Tilda is lovely too, as is Josephine.

Josephine (Josie) or Harriet (Hattie)

KangarooKenny · 21/10/2022 07:10

Tilda is a brand name for rice.

TenThousandSpoons · 21/10/2022 07:14

I would choose Josephine.

GAW19 · 21/10/2022 07:23

Love Harriet, was also on our list Smile
Really dislike Greta 😬
Tilda just makes me think of rice 🤷🏻‍♀️

What about

Ollie
Maisie
Frankie

AnnapurnaSanctuary · 21/10/2022 07:26

I like your list, especially Vivian, Marion and Tilda. Harriet is ok. Not so keen on Josephine or Greta.

KirstenBlest · 21/10/2022 07:45

Vivian* - no. you know why. Young Ones, Pretty Woman. Viv
Marion - ok
Josephine - ok
Harriet - like it esp. Hattie
Greta - short for Margaret
Tilda - rice

Suggestions
Thora, Hilda and Rita have a nice retro vibe
Martha as an alternative to Harriet

DeeDeeDaisy · 21/10/2022 08:04

I like Josephine and Harriett. Not keen on the others.

Fuckallthetories · 21/10/2022 08:08

Love love love Greta (my dds called Greta though, so might be biased!)

vivian is nice to (and you can shorten it to viv when she’s older)

AlwaysFoldingWashing · 21/10/2022 08:10

Marion is my middle name, names after my Granny. She has Myra for her nickname which I think is lovely

emmathedilemma · 21/10/2022 08:14

Josephine, Greta and Harriet are ok.
tilda just sounds like a nickname or rice
Marion is old fashioned but not in a trendy way, she’s your elderly next door neighbour.
I’m not a fan of Vivian and spelling anything in the non traditional way just sets your child up for a lifetime of correcting people on the spelling of their name.

Kindofcrunchy · 21/10/2022 08:15

Seeing Vivian pop up a lot on this board lately... Would be so funny if it made a comeback 😁

Fuckallthetories · 21/10/2022 08:16

And I like Nora, I know a Nora bloss and I think it’s a beautiful name.

nelliebear8 · 21/10/2022 08:44

All are lovely, my top 3 would be (in this order):
Tilda
Greta
Vivian

I like Harriet, Marion, Josephine out of those. All classic and elegant. Not keen on Tilda unless used as a nn for Matilda.

Spanielsarepainless · 21/10/2022 19:43

Marion is also the male form. Tilda is rice. I like Vivian and Harriet from your list.

LoveYouHoneybear · 21/10/2022 20:05

Thanks so much everyone! I live in Canada, where there is no Tilda rice (ha!) but very good to know.
