Rosa or Rosanna

Due our baby girl in 2 weeks. Thought we had decided on Rosanna but yesterday my DH said that he actually just prefers Rosa. I really like Rosa too so it's thrown a spanner in the works!

I like the simplicity of Rosa but I like the versatility of Rosanna. I know Rosanna could potentially be shortened to Rosa but to me the natural nickname would be Rosie.

Which do you prefer and why?
Would you go for simplicity or versatility?

(She is going to have two middle names, one that is one syllable and one that is two, followed by pretty common two syllable surname. To us, both names flow well with her middle names and our last name).

Rosa

Rosanna is beautiful, you can shorten it to Rosa if you wish and not Rosie

ThisShipIsSinking · 16/10/2022 15:57

Both beautiful names, l also like Rosina.

DS would have had Rosa as a middle name if he'd been a girl. It's a family name for us but I do think it's a lovely name.

I prefer Rosa

I love both Rosanna and Rosa, but we went for Rosanna for our daughter who's 13 now. She really likes her name and uses both her full name and Rosie (Rosanna for school but her friends tend to use Rosie, I use both.) Her middle name is Eve and our surname has two syllables- I really like how her name flows and didn't think Rosa flowed so well with Eve so that was one of the main reasons for going for the longer name.

Rosa. Simply gorgeous 🌹

Rosanna
I like Rosa but it isn't quite as complete-sounding as other 'a' names.
I think Rosie works better than Rosa

What about Rosemary Anne??! That would be my choice. Love that.

Rosanna.

Rosa reminds me of lazy casting on American films and TV shows. Any time there's an over worked and taken for granted Hispanic maid she's always called Rosa.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 16/10/2022 16:26

(it was actually a Rosa who pointed that out to me)

DramaAlpaca · 16/10/2022 16:31

I prefer Rosanna, which can helpfully be shortened to Rosa.

This is a very interesting observation in my view. ''We'' in Europe view latin style names very differently. This is just my opinion of course but growing up in Ireland all the latin names had a very glamorous vibe. Sophia, Isabella, Rosa, Julia or Giulia. But in America they sound like ''The Help''. But I think that's only to socially insecure people in America who do not HAVE help but might have been employed in serving roles.. So the response to that is going for abrupt sounding names, Kennedy, Hoyt, Guyt, Schuylar, Parker etc. Name choices that sound quite ugly to us. But definitely not like the maid. Different inspirations.

I’d go for Rosanna only because Rosa is becoming really popular. I’m not a fan of Rosa particularly either.

DotDotDotDotDot · 16/10/2022 20:21

Both lovely but I personally prefer Rosa - its simplicity makes it so pretty.

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/10/2022 23:05

Rosanna

I generally prefer it - it has a real warmth as well as elegance to me.

But Rose/Rosa/Rosie are all done absolutely to death, so that would swing it for me.

nelliebear8 · 18/10/2022 07:01

Rosa. Sweet and simple, and can still be Rosie.

GlassDeli · 18/10/2022 07:09

Rosanna

CruelworldKindwords · 18/10/2022 08:09

Rosanna is beautiful.
I like all "Rose" names, but I also like all "Anna" names, so Rosanna would be the perfect combination!

OnlyAlchemy · 20/10/2022 00:03

Rosa - lovely name
