Seems DH and I have picked the worst name ever for our ds. Find it a bit grating how one or two people can be so outspoken about a name but not really then go on to say why!!

Jonathan is our sons name, Michael being his middle name.. is it that shocking?

They're nice names. But even if I thought they weren't, you shouldn't let it make any difference to you. He's your son and you get to choose his name not anyone else.
The names I chose for my Ds and Dd were both deeply out of fashion at the time and I had a lot of negative comments. Both names have slowly moved up the popularity scale and Dd's name was actually the No. 1 most popular name last year! So, you go with whatever names you like the best. It's only fickle fashion that makes a name unpoular for a while.
The only downside of an unpopular name is that you can't ever buy your DCs any of those trashy named items that you get in gift shops and that all children seem to want. Of course, now that my DCs are grown up, these things are plastered with their names! Maybe I'll buy Ds (28) a Winnie the Pooh keyring with his name on for his birthday, since he always wanted one!

If I were having a baby now my chosen names would be Eric, Frank, Maud and Ada. Just wait 20 years and you'll see!
Oh dear! I talk too much! Time for bed

This reminds me of when my best friends DS was born. A mutual friend called me and gushed about how lovely he was then said 'oh my god, but have you heard what she's called him'

He's named Isaac, fgs, fair enough if it was Snoop or Arsenal or something.....

People may feel they are oldfashioned becaue they were so common in the previous generation- people who are now in their forties and fifties. But hey! should be time for a revival! It's not like people are going to go on forever calling their children Kyle and Callum. These things go in cycles. I think we're due for a change.

jonathan is lovely and my husbands name. one of my NCT friends called her son jonathan, and shortens it to Joe (a northern thing I think).

I am considering Michael for my current bump if it turns out to be blue. haven't told anyone yet, including husband! good luck, whoever commented negatively was odd!!

DP is Jonathan, I think it's a good name, I often call him Johnny, his work colleagues call him John. It's a good strong manly name no matter how you shorten it, and it's not one of those new fangled crappy names that no-one knows how to pronounce or if it belongs to a boy or a girl, Oh and DS's middle name is Michael, as is DP's dads name.

they're probably jealous cos they cant spell it.... lost count of the number of Johnathans and Micheals I've seen.

It's lovely!
