What do we think? Welsh heritage, but born in England and live in England. I just think it's a beautiful name. Other suggestions welcome.

Delyth is lovely but I think it's a bit dated in Wales (this may or may not bother you).

Not keen but I like Delly/Della as a nickname.

I know a beautiful little Welsh Eira.

KirstenBlest · 14/10/2022 18:31

1960s name

Stichintime · 14/10/2022 18:33

Think it's great, but I'm not Welsh, so wouldn't get the connotations!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 14/10/2022 18:34

I really dislike it, but possibly because I work with a really difficult colleague called Delyth

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/10/2022 18:34

I like it. I used to know someone called Delyth.

SemperIdem · 14/10/2022 18:35

Please no.

I’m Welsh and to me, Delyth is equivalent to Ethel in the ugly old lady name stakes.

There are so many other lovely names to choose from, plenty listed above by a pp.

Yaissa · 14/10/2022 18:36

Oooh, I've never heard it before. I LOVE it.

ijustcouldntthinkofausername · 14/10/2022 18:42

Never heard of it hits its lovely.
Can I ask - is it pronounced Del-lie-eth ?

Spanielsarepainless · 14/10/2022 18:45

Love it.

No. DEL-ith

OP I like it but I think it has an old fashioned feel. I knew one who mostly went by Del.

DillDanding · 14/10/2022 18:52

Noooo. It’s a bit Gladys or Ethel.

KirstenBlest · 14/10/2022 19:26

It was popular in the Welsh community at the same time as Carys, Siân, Rhian, Bethan, Dylan, Bryn, Gareth, Dewi. Definitely middle-aged names now.
It was a made-up name Del+yth (Pretty+yth)

I'd say it was about the same as naming a baby Tracey or something.
It's ok apart from people might spell it as Dellith or say Dellif.

Derith (DERR-eeth, short ee) might be an alternative.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 14/10/2022 20:58

I thought it was the name of the Welsh woman in Hi De Hi but Google tells me she was a Gladys. And yet Delyth is still giving me 'good morning, campers..' vibes. It's not doing it for me.

ChocolateCareBear · 14/10/2022 21:17

I work with a lovely Delyth. She's in her 20's and the name suits her beautifully.

Ouchiehelpneeded · 14/10/2022 21:22

I'm in Wales and know a few Delyths (ages 8-45). I think it's a lovely name 🙂

TourmalineGiraffe · 14/10/2022 21:26

I knew a Delyth, it suited her, thought it a lovely name.
I had never heard it before meeting her so had no old lady connotations for me, just thought it was soft and beautiful sounding.

Heavenknows22 · 14/10/2022 21:27

No it’s too old-fashioned.

sageandbasil · 14/10/2022 21:38

I like it! I know a baby Dilwen. Welsh names are deffo on the rise. ive got a little Mabli

Kite22 · 14/10/2022 22:18

I like it.
The ones I know are 60, and about 80ish, so it must be coming up for a revival.

I think it is nice, and I also think it is easy to spell and easy for non-Welsh speakers to pronounce so all positive.

DramaAlpaca · 15/10/2022 02:05

No, not for me. It's very old fashioned.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 15/10/2022 02:20

No , sounds too soppy to me .

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/10/2022 18:42

It’s a bit wet and lispy

Anest is lovely though, as is Carys. Gwyneth is alright.

KirstenBlest · 18/10/2022 18:49

I don't see the appeal of Carys at all, and a Gwyneth would probably be about 80.
Delyth and Carys are less likely to be misspelt than Gwyneth (Gywneth, Gwynedd, Gwenneth etc)
Delyth is inoffensive but dated.

Annest is nicer than Anest, but Nest is nicer than either of them.
