I love liberty but don't like the nick name libby or Bertie, are there any other nick names for this name?

I love the nickname Rocky as it reminds me of the mountains, what would be a slightly more feminine longer name?

I love the name Scotia, I read it somewhere meaning land of the Scotts. What are your thoughts?

Im half greek, grew up in Canada and live in Scotland. I really like name that are linked to these places. Any ideas?

Oh god please don't give your poor daughter a too obscure, 'out there' name. She certainly won't thank you for it.

Daijoubudesu · 11/10/2022 10:18

I know a girl who has been called Rocky her whole life. Her name of her birth certificate is Rochelle.

JustMaggie · 11/10/2022 10:20

Rochelle (nn Rocky)?

DuchessOfSausage · 11/10/2022 10:37

Not keen on Liberty, although the shop is wonderful. Bertie is not a name for a girl.
Rocky for a girl is dreadful. Scotia is too out there, but Alba is quite popular.
Petra or Pietra mean rock and are quite pretty names.

PinkSyCo · 11/10/2022 10:49

I like the name Liberty and the nickname Libby. Scotia is awful. I’m not sure how I feel about the name Rocky, though I would have it would be short or the name Roxanne, which is quite nice I think.

Ihavehadenoughalready · 11/10/2022 10:57

Raquel (Rockie)

Alberta, nn Allie rather than Bertie?

I guess you could use Liv for Liberty, but then maybe Livia instead of Liberty? I think Liberty would inevitably become Libby.

ladycarlotta · 11/10/2022 12:44

Rocky could also be short for Rukhsana/Roxana. I would draw the line at Roxanne though.

Notgotanyidea · 11/10/2022 12:46

Nova?

Marshmallowmountain · 11/10/2022 12:46

What about Nova?

emmathedilemma · 11/10/2022 13:37

Rocky & Scotia are just a bit crazy I'm afraid.
Don't use anything you don't like any potential nicknames for because even if you don't use it, someone inevitably will at some point.
Alba is sweet and not too common.

Thisisnotmyname2 · 11/10/2022 13:45

Liberty would be a Libby I think so if you don't like it I wouldn't use it. Roxanne or Rochelle would work if you like the nickname Rocky. She may also decide to be Roxy if you called her Roxanne.

Athena is a nice name and I think based on a Greek godess. Sorry but I don't really like Scotia.

bernestina · 11/10/2022 13:51

I like Roksana, Roxanne, Roxanna etc.

I really like Scotia and Scottie/Scout for short - is it really that bad?

OP posts:
Abhannmor · 11/10/2022 13:53

Scotia is a bit tricky. Coz it is pronounced skow-shia but I'm guessing a lot of ppl would just give up and call her Scotty.

I know a Bertie - real name Roberta. Nice name I think. So is Rochelle.

Melaniais · 11/10/2022 14:04

Daijoubudesu · 11/10/2022 10:18

I know a girl who has been called Rocky her whole life. Her name of her birth certificate is Rochelle.

Lovely

bernestina · 11/10/2022 14:10

@Abhannmor I really like Scotia nn Scottie and Roksana nn Rockie

KirstenBlest · 11/10/2022 14:14

Why don't you use Scotia as a middle name; first name Nova.

TheBirdintheCave · 11/10/2022 17:32

Scotia is not a name, especially if you live in Scotland.

How about trying a Scots Gaelic name? The below is a trusted source if you'd like to give those a browse? :)

AmandaMirandaPanda · 11/10/2022 18:02

In a Canadian context, Liberty always makes me think of the character Liberty Van Vandt in Degrassi Next Generation - she was always just Liberty, or occasionally L (Elle?) Scotia make me think of the bank!

For Scottish place names that skew feminine, how about:
Afton
Ailsa
Arden
Cara
Cherry
Danna
Flannan
Flora
Iona
Isla
Kerrera (Cearrara in Gaelic)
Kilda
Maree
Moira (Mhuire in Gaelic)
Morven
Rhona/Rona (Rònaigh in Gaelic)
Sanda
Shona
Skye
Taran (Taransay, Taransee)

It's 'Scots' not 'Scotts.'

I don't like any of the names on your list.

Longdarkcloud · 11/10/2022 20:41

Why not just Scottie?

SeanChailleach · 11/10/2022 22:52

Your name ideas are lovely but I'm wondering if you are half Greek what is the other half?
It would be unusual to call a girl "Rocky", as it's perceived as a macho name, especially due to the film about a boxer, starring Sylvester Stallone. Although the film is quite old now, it is still remembered. Roksana nn Roksi or Roxy are regarded as feminine.
The name Scotia is rarely used in Scotland as a girls' name and people will be surprised by it and will argue with you about whether it is a name. "Scot" or "Scoth" both mean "blossom" and "Scothín" is a lovely Gaelic name that is being used in both Ireland and Scotland.
If you like the meaning of Liberty, but don't like Libby or Bertie, you might think of using the name Saoirse, which is Gaelic for liberty, and is widely known due to the actor Saoirse Ronan.

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/10/2022 22:56

Liberty is ok
Rocky is completely bizarre
Scotia is similarly strange

Iona, Isla, Arran, Flora are all Scottish themed names, there are many more, jutat pick something sensible

Mummysharkdoodoodoodoodoodoo · 12/10/2022 06:34

Scotia as a name makes me think of a disease 😳 I’m so sorry, I toyed with whether to post this as it sounds horrible but decided to as I thought, I always ask for baby name opinions to hear honest opinions. I also really don’t like Roksana or Rocky for a girl. There’s a (male) dog called Rocky on Paw Patrol which was my first thought when I saw the name Rocky. It’s the sort of name my DC would approve of, for this reason, though. So that’s something.

Alba is nice, as a PP said. Alberta also cool.

Mummysharkdoodoodoodoodoodoo · 12/10/2022 06:34

Liberty also made me think of the dog on Paw Patrol. I need to stop watching Paw Patrol.

Mummysharkdoodoodoodoodoodoo · 12/10/2022 06:37

(Before anyone leaps on me, I know the meaning of Scotia. But I think it has a very medical sound as a name.)
