Noelle and Enid, Isabella and May

We are still adding to our list and

Noelle

is the newest candidate. Do you like it? Does it work with the nickname Ellie?
Should we add the trema or not (does anyone know if it causes issues on documents?)

Enid

Enid has been growing on me more and more. I know in English it's ee-nid but in Welsh eh-nid, which one is nicer? I also heard a Welsh speaker say it more like enn-need online and now I don't know which one is correct. Could you tell me? Is the eh as in ehnnid or more eh-nid (with a long eh sound like the French é)?

Isabella

Has been on our list for a while and it's slowly becoming my favourite. Many people mentioned its popularity but is it popular to the point of being annoying or would it be fine? I saw on darkgreener that it fell quite a bit in 2021.

May

I think it's pretty and underused. Would you use Mae or May and why?

Isabella May

We were thinking about this combo, is it nice?

Thanks.

Really love Enid and May. Don't like the Mae spelling. Isabella is nice but a bit too princessy and SO popular. Prefer Isobel. Noelle I don't know/get, makes me think of Christmas.

My DD is Isabella and I love her name as much now as I did 15 years ago when I chose it. I’m not aware of any other Isabella’s near us…at the primary or secondary school. I always wanted her to be Bella…but as she’s got older she’s more of an Izzie.

I think Isabella May is beautiful

Anything except Enid - very old lady name, but not one of the nicer ones
(I asked my 16 yo Dd - this is her opinion!)

Love Noelle hate the rest.

Not keen on Noelle.
Enid (like Edith and Agnes) are great names and I only know of cool and clever younger people with this names.

Isabelle/Bella/obel. Etc are ubiquitous because they are lovely.

May is ok but mostly a middle name these days. Have you considered Martha, Mabel or Mary?

Noelle.

Isabella and May are very common.

Enid sounds like a dreadful nasal infection.

Isabel/la while lovely has been done to death - and Isabella May is a screaming cliche of a combination.

May is fairly popular as a first name, although not as hugely overused as it is as a middle name. It’s much nicer spelt May like the month, Mae West is a fun reference but overall the Mae / Mai spellings bring to mind names like Lexi-Mai and Ellie-Mae which is really not the vibe you want for your child.

I like Enid actually. And seeing as Elsie and Edith have been revived, I don’t see why it shouldn’t be. Unless you are actually in Wales it will be pronounced ee-nid, which I think is nicer anyway.

I don’t like Noelle. I think it’s one of the many French names that doesn’t translate well to English.
