Middle names

We’ve decided to call out little girl Hallie, now we are undecided on a middle name. Ideally we’d like something short and one syllable. Here are our options…

Hallie Grace
Hallie Sofia
Hallie Rae
Hallie Faye

What do you all think?

Hallie is too nicknamey. Grace is overused as a middle name and Rae is only ok if it is a family surname. Prefer Fay to Faye and Sophia to Sofia.

I would go with Sofia as the others feel very 'filler' name.

Although personally, I'd have no middle name at all if it didn't have a special meaning or link to family etc

Though I would go for a longer middle name, such as:
Hallie Margaret
Hallie Roberta
Hallie Josephine
Hallie Madison

I’d pick a longer or at least 2 syllable middle name or use a family name as middle name.

Hallie Sophia the best of your list (prefer this spelling over Sofia)

Thank you all for your replies. We have thought about leaving a middle name and just having Hallie but our surname is short too!

I love Olivia as a first name and would have as a second but my DSS name is too similar!

We like Rae as she is ‘our ray of sunshine’ in a difficult time. We will have a think but running out of time 🤣

Probably Hallie Sophia. Grace is ridiculously overused, Rae is quite common too. I think you could go with a long middle name.

Last two sound too much like a lyric from a country song : 'I went down to the river bank with Hallie Rae/Faye'....

if your surname is short and you really like Rae for the meaning how about

Hallie Aurelia

Hallie Roxanna

Roxanna means dawn or bright.

Hallie is quite twee, so it needs a more classic middle name to balance it. Hallie Sofia is the best, but Hallie Sophia would be even better.

Yep Hallie is nn-y and faddy. It’s a short form of Harriet so I’d called her Harriet Sophia nn Hallie.

.. if you want a name that makes you think of sunshine, maybe look up names that mean light like Lucy. Rae is a another faddy cliche middle name.

If you like Rae for 'ray of sunshine' perhaps Aurelia? (I know a baby Aurelia whose nickname is Ray-Ray).

I like Hallie Sofia best. It’s not at all faddy - it’s not very common at all. And I wouldn’t call her Harriet to try to twist it into the name you already like, because then you’ll just feel annoyed when people call her Harriet. Hallie is a fine name alone.

It is faddy @Kanaloa . I'd never heard of Hallie until recently, and it was hardly used at all about 15 years ago.

I agree about the not using a longer name if you are only going to use the diminutive.

No it isn’t. Regardless of when you heard it, a fad is a sudden and intense level of popularity that rises and quickly drops. Hallie has never been popular enough to be called a ‘fad.’ In the UK there is not a sudden highly popular drive for the name Hallie.

I presume what you and some other posters mean is that it’s modern. But there’s nothing wrong with that.

It’s still a tiny tiny tiny amount. It’s not extremely popular, there’s no intense/extreme popularity.

The OP didn't ask for people's thoughts on their choice of first name. If you think it's 'twee', why not keep that yourself and not be unpleasant.

I think all the suggested names would go well. Personally I prefer Rae Or Sofia. Faye is also pretty. Grace to me is over done

I would avoid an ‘ay/ae/ay’ ending. Like a previous poster said, it’s a bit country - Billy Ray Cyrus comes to mind. I think no middle name makes more impact, regardless of how long your surname. Make sure you teach the importance of good oral hygiene to stop any unfortunate school nicknames!!

It is unpleasant. I don’t know why people insist on doing it - it was the same on the thread asking which names would sound nice with big brother Hudson. People just couldn’t help themselves having a dig at the name they hadn’t been asked about.
