Leonora and Leonor/e

Leonora and Leonor/e are both family names which have grown on me.

Any thoughts on the names other than that Leonor/e sounds a bit like the brand of washing powder? (I searched other baby name boards about the name and this seems to be the most common worry from posters in the UK but we don’t like in the UK so this isn’t a worry here.)

I was wondering if there are any other issues I should think of or if you think the names are nice?

If you like either, which one do you prefer and why? Can you think of any middle names that go nicely?

If you like Leonor/e best, do you prefer it with or without the e?

Thank you in advance!

I don't live in the UK either but Leonore/Leonora is lovely. I think it looks unfinished without the e on the end.
I also like Lenora.

MargotChateau · 01/10/2022 06:38

My friend is called Lenara, which I think is pretty and unusual. Another variation which is very pretty.

krisskrosses · 01/10/2022 06:40

Not the same spelling but it makes me think of Edgar Allen Poe "The Raven". Maybe that's becoming a more obscure reference these days though!

Oh quaff this kind nepenthe and forget this lost Lenore!
Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”

Nice name but I can see people mispronouncing it a lot

It makes me think of this too… I’d love to say I’m super cultured but if im honest I only know about it because it was on a Simpsons Halloween episode once 😂

I know one Leonore nickname Leo, it’s never mispronounced or misspelt.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 01/10/2022 07:02

I had a school friend called Leonora, always known as Leo by her parents, but adopted the edgier "Nora" in her teens. I think her middle name was Charlotte. I've always thought Leonora was a lovely name, but have never come across another.

Do you prefer Leonora or Leonore? Do the names have a different feel to them? Their sister is called Tabitha - do you think either or both sound okay with Tabitha?

Leonie?

yorkypuds · 01/10/2022 07:12

I prefer Leona. Once knew a very cool Leona and loved the name since.

Mummysharkdoodoodoodoodoodoo · 01/10/2022 08:20

Leonie and Leona are nice but we don't like them quite as much as Leonora and Leonore and they also lose the family connection so we aren't adding them to the list. Thanks for the suggestions though!

Leonora is gorgeous.

I would avoid Lenore because of the washing product.

MissedItByThisMuch · 01/10/2022 08:44

I like Leonore (with the e). Like Leonora too, but I think I prefer the more streamlined version. It’s a close thing though. Both go really well with Tabitha.

S25 · 01/10/2022 10:11

I prefer Leonora with Tabitha. You say you aren’t in the UK and so the connotations of the washing brand isn’t a issue so either are pretty IMO ❤️
As for middle names how about:

Leonora Iris
Leonora Alice
Leonora Alicia
Leonora Elodie
Leonora Olivia

OceanbreezeSun · 01/10/2022 10:50

I prefer Leonora as a name. It has a nicer sound then Leonore. It goes well with Tabitha too.

Mummysharkdoodoodoodoodoodoo · 01/10/2022 14:48

I love Leonora Iris and Leonora Alice 😍

My mum is Lenore - I love it, such a beautiful name!

Apollonia1 · 01/10/2022 15:10

Leonora and Tabitha were both on my baby-name list!

Both Leonora and Leonore are lovely, but I prefer the flow of Leonora.

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/10/2022 20:46

Leonora - it’s lovely and terribly underused

Leonore does sound like washing powder, but is also less musical - it’s just not as pretty or balance

I like family names as middle names, but if you don’t like any of your family names, or indeed your family, then maybe.

Leonora Frances

Leonora Evelyn

Leonora Celeste

Leonora Aislinn (Ash-lin)

Leonora Catherine

something soft sounding with 2 syllables probably works best
