What is the deal with worrying if a name is a surname? Basically every name is also a surname. David, Martin, Robert/Roberts, John, James, Samuel, the list goes on forever. If you like a name, use it.

Beatrice - lovely
Bridget - nice and unusual for a baby
Cecily - pretty
Cordelia - nice but I don’t think there’s any nice nickname options and it seems like a name that would get shortened
Flora - I love this
Giselle - I wouldn’t use a name that had a ‘jizz’ sound in it in the UK
Callista - how would you spell this name - it’s okay. Sounds like a product to me.
Romilly - always reminds me of Rommel but I’m a bit of a history nerd so that might not be a common reaction
Rosina - it’s okay
Saskia - lovely
boys:
Amaury - sounds feminine
Clarence - not ready for a comeback
Drury - is this a name?!
Emil - this is traditional spelling where I am - it’s okay
Jory - I never heard it and I don’t like it
Joshua - nice
Knight - I like how its similar to night - I like it only as middle - its a bit chavvy (sorry)
Lucius - nice
Percy - a bit wet
Remy - a bit wet
Roland - no
Tennyson - it’s a surname

Beatrice, Bridget, Cecily, Saskia and Flora are the girls names I’d cut the list down to. They’re all lovely. Of the boys names I’d only use Lucius, Emil or Joshua.

Kite22 · 30/09/2022 13:54

Erm....... I like Joshua Smile

Luredbyapomegranate · 30/09/2022 15:37

I like a lot of your girl names - my shortlist would be Saskia, Cecily and Bridget

I think you need to rethink your boys list, although Joshua is nice

Beatrice - nice but a bit overused

Bridget - I really like it.Might be marmite

Cecily - Lovely and fairly unusual

Cordelia - elegant. No great short form though and as it will get shortened that would put me off

Flora - very nice, quite popular

Giselle - NO - no girl wants Jizz in her name

Callista - how would you spell this name - Calista, but I think either is fine. If you want the Callie nn then I think Caroline or Calliope are nicer

Romilly - meh, blends with all the Rose, Romy, Rowan, Rory, Romans around

Rosina - Rose names are very overused.
But if you want one Rosanna or Rosemary would be better options, Rosina sounds like one of those weird dolls

Saskia - love it, elegant and yet sassy

boys:
Amaury - sounds like woman’s name (Amelie, Avery etc) how about Zachary or Barnaby?

Clarence - too early to come back. How about Ernest or Arnold?

Drury - no, very awkward to say

Emil - this is traditional spelling where I am - it’s not nice, also blurs with all the endless girls Em names, plus the fact on paper people will mistake it for Emily as it’s so unusual here

Jory - like Jury?? I think like Drury it’s hard to say and he’ll be forever spelling and repeating it. Jules, Jerome, Jethro or Jago maybe?

Joshua - nice, although prefer Josiah

Knight - I like how its similar to night - I like it only as middle - fine as a middle name, people will just think it’s a family surname.

Lucius - because it’s unusual it rather brings Lucifer to mind, would go for the more familiar Lucian

Percy - wet

Remy - inexplicably rising in popularity, but l still think only for a 60 year old French bloke

Roland - ok

Tennyson - like this more than Alfred, but worry it's too surnamey - I’d worry more about what the nn will be, because it will get shortened - either Sunny (ok I guess), or Tenny (a bit weird)
