Alliterative names

Hi, Seriously considering the name Max for our baby due soon but our surname begins with an M - would you seriously laugh at that sort of alliteration? - worried he'll sound a bit too much like Lex Luther! But also wondering whether to just stop worrying and think it's not really a big deal :-)

Not but helpful I think it depends what your surname is.......a short M name might be quite samey, but a longer name with no other m's in it might work ok.....

I really like alliterative names. Brigitte Bardot and Susan Sarandon are good examples.

If your surname is Maxwell don't do it but Max Mason, Max Murphy, Max McKenzie all sound great to me.

I love alliterative names! DD has alliterative first name middle name as I didn’t like any girls names beginning with our surname letter but if the next one is a boy that will be happening! Go for it 😁

One of my children has the same first and surname initial, my mum said I could name my child like that but we loved it and ds likes it too.

i wouldn’t do it if the names sounded similar eg Blake Black or Jack Jackson

JenniferBarkley · 29/09/2022 11:31

I like alliterative names, as long as they aren't too sing songy. DD's name isn't a million miles from Max McManus and I think it flows nicely.

Fine in some cases, not in otgers. No to Max Maxwell or Max Mann. Max McPherson is good.

Thanks - I think mine might be ok but hmmm!

My Dad has rocked it for the last 80-odd years (with a middle name with a different initial).

I deliberately chose an alliterative name for our baby. First name 2 syllables, surname 3

spiderlight · 29/09/2022 14:50

Myu son has an alliterative name and it's never been an issue. I don't think anyone has ever mentioned it. He has a three-syllable first name so there's a bit of a gap between the two initials, if you see what I mean, but I actually think a short snappy name like Max would work just as well, especially with a surname with two or more syllables.

Thank you! I'm a bit nervous about saying the surname here in case there are people I know but will PM you it if it's ok :-)

We are naming our baby with an alliterative name. Andrew Anderson is a bit much, but ours is a Mc name and I think a bit of alliteration can be lovely.

I don't think most people will care if there's an alliteration with first and last names and I don't get the "funny" part of it either. See what goes with your last name and have maybe a few names ready and when you see finally him, then see what name suits him 🙂

KirstenBlest · 30/09/2022 09:10

I think Mark McSomething sounds good.
Max McSomething, is a bit too many Macs

Thank you! Excellent advice except it took us 4 months to name our last child and I now hate the name so keen to get it sorted in advance :-). That's helpful re alliteration, thank you!

I think it can work if the vowel sounds are also different.

Eg Max Milton / Max Mortimer both sound cool

Max Matthews/ Max Mann are a bit harder to get your tongue around.
