We have a DS called Rufus.
Don't know what the baba is yet but we have a small list of names for girls but almost nothing for a boy. We want it to go well with Rufus, traditional but not popular (doesn't everyone?!)

What do you think? Thoughts?

Girls-
Roberta
Henrietta
Thomasina

Boys-
Wilbur
Bertie

Thanks!

I'd go for Henrietta and Wilbur. Although prefer Wilfred. I like Roberta but maybe preferable to avoid repeating initials.

Lilacsunflowers · 28/09/2022 11:36

Love Henrietta

For a boy Wilbur is nicer than Bertie (too babyish imo), or how about Quentin or Albert?

TheVanguardSix · 28/09/2022 11:38

Rufus and Thomasina
Rufus and Bertie
are my picks. 🙂

Unicorn717 · 28/09/2022 11:46

Please pick Bertie over Wilbur.

SummaLuvin · 28/09/2022 11:49

I really dislike the girls names you list, they are awkwardly feminised versions of male names that don't work for me. To me they often read as 'we wish we has Thomas, Henry, and Robert but what can you do'.

I adore Wilbur. Bertie is nice, but if you want to avoid popular then while it might not be popular on its own, it fits very much within the current trend.

clpsmum · 28/09/2022 11:51

The only name I like that you e chosen is Rufus tbh! Don't like any of the others

I agree. Roberta is particularly weird if I am honest.

What about Matilda? Sybil? Something traditional but girly?

nancydroo · 28/09/2022 11:55

Rufus and Bertie sounds fab. Like a Jeeves and Wooster book

Gamergirl84 · 28/09/2022 12:28

@Lilacsunflowers oh I live Albert too! Unfortunately our sur ame is Hall so.... lol
I like Alberta for a girl though?

@TheVanguardSix thank you!

@SummaLuvin we might go with Bertrand and have Bertie as a nickname?

@Mamoun I've always liked the name Roberta from the Raulway Children- I guess it's a little out of date now. Love Matilda but best friends DD name.

@nancydroo 😄 that about sums us up as a family

Henrietta and Wilbur would be my choices from your lists

emmathedilemma · 28/09/2022 13:49

No to Alberta Hall too!
I agree that Bertie is to babyish on it's own, it needs to be something longer as a full name.
I also prefer Wilfred to Wilbur but Rufus and Wilf is a bit of a mouthful, particularly if he became "Ruf / Roof"!
Henrietta is cute, I'm not keen on Roberta or Tomasina.

Unicorn717 · 28/09/2022 13:50

Alberta hall made me laugh🤣

Gamergirl84 · 28/09/2022 13:55

OK maybe not Alberta either 🥴😄

Wilfred is lovely but hubby doesn't like Fred or Freddie so has vetoed anything ending in Fred. Shame.

Thoughts on Hector?

KirstenBlest · 28/09/2022 14:03

The girl's names are feminine versions of boys' names and are long. They'll be shortened. Bobbie, Hetty and Tammy?
Henrietta Hall sounds like Henry ate a whole...

Not keen on Wilbur or Bertie. Bertie could be short for Bertram or Bertrand.

Gamergirl84 · 28/09/2022 14:07

@KirstenBlest
Yep, absolutely. Love Bobbie and Bertie for Roberta and Hetty for Henrietta.

I knew a Henrietta Lamb at school 😄 No one really took much notice though.

I don't like the meaning of hector:

To hector: verb
1 talk to (someone) in a bullying way.

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/09/2022 22:29

Rufus is great - elegant and strong

I like Hector. Quite like Wilber, although prefer Wilfred and as a similarity mediaeval vibe to Rufus. Bertie is v wet as a full name, and Bertram is fussy.

Don’t think you can have Henrietta Hall, Tomasina is a bit thumberlina dance, thumberlina sing! Also you wouldn’t want Tammy as a nn. I don’t mind Roberta but you probably don’t want two r names (unless you nn her Bertie?)

Maybe..

Silas
Saul
Guy
Cassian
Casper
Alistair
Kester
Ernest
Ivor
Francis
Jerome
Blaise
Josiah

Joanna
Francesca
Octavia
Adela
Julia
Cordelia
Sabrina
Alicia
Iona
Cassia
Georgiana
Cliona
Miranda
Saskia

Happenchance · 28/09/2022 23:43

I like Roberta and Thomasina but don't like the common nicknames for them.

Bertie Hall sounds too similar to dirty hall.

Other suggestions:
Martha (if you don't mind the Wainwright connection)
Adrianne / Adriana / Adrian
Irene

Cedric
Damian
Alistair
Dorian
Eugene

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 29/09/2022 00:02

Wilbur is a great name & goes brilliantly with Rufus ( what a fabulous name ) Love Henrietta too .

Gamergirl84 · 29/09/2022 16:32

@Luredbyapomegranate such great suggestions! Earnest is definitely on the list now as is Cassian and Francesca

@Happenchance dirty bertie 😄😄
@Smallonesaremorejuicy thanks, Wilbur is a great name! Not commonly used and similar tone to Rufus

I agree. The first thing I noticed with the girls names is that they're feminised male names. Eesh.

Wilma
Alma

Evan
Edwin
