Scottish boys names

Hi, me and my husband are trying to think of a good Scottish boys name for our baby due at the start of next year but we're struggling.

Callum, Cameron, Malcolm, Gregor and Ruairidh/Rory are all out for various reasons.

I like Fraser but my husband isn't keen. Only name we agree on is Ian but I'm worried it's a bit middle aged

Neither of us is keen on "new"/trendy names such as Struan or Lachlan.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Alistair is out because it's a close family name unfortunately, nice name though.

Also names ending in S or X are mostly out because our surname starts with S and we're finding it harder to say the full name 😂 ie Angus Smith trips me up

Personally I think Ian is a good solid name, not just for the middle aged.

Alexander, Scottish nickname is Sandy

Would you consider Gaelic versions of commonly used names? So Domhnall instead of Donald, Seonaidh instead of John, Ailean instead of Alan etc?

Callan - actually not often mistaken for Callum where I live.

I had quite a few on my list (we are an English-Scottish couple) but top were the following

(We also had a strong Formula 1 theme!)

Fraser was one of our choices, I really like it but it didn't work with DS's middle name which was a nod to a family member that I really wanted.

I also quite like Ian, I know one child with that name and it suits him just fine.

Not really, my family are all east coast and my husband's are mainly Glasgow. We don't have any connection to Gaelic or the Highlands and Islands. Also even in Scotland you're in for a lifetime of spelling your name which we already have to do with our surname

Annoyingly Donald is a name we both kind of liked but the Trump connotations put me off

I have a Robert, nn Robbie. Easy to spell, classic, but definite Scottish heritage too! I'm English, DH is Scottish so we wanted a name that worked for both.

Robert is a good name but again a close family name (this is the problem when no one in your family has ever left Scotland)

I didn't realise Struan was new and trendy! I know two and they are both middle aged!

It might not be new but I know of at least 5 Struans under 10 and it's just not for me.

Lachlan Findlay Ruaridh Moray Fergus Harrison Lewis Arran/ Arron Brodie Osian are some I like

I bloody hope Ian isn't a middle-aged name. There were multiple Ians in my class.

The Scottish names I like are Fergus, Hamish and Euan. I also like Gordon which might be too middle-aged for you.

I like Innes and Munro.
