Is it too dated?

No, Tessa is pretty popular.

It’s a nice version.

How are you pronouncing Therese?

Is there more than one way to pronounce it? I think I'm just pronouncing it the regular way?

I've met a couple of Thereses, one would be in her forties, the other in her sixties. In both cases, I'd assume St Therese of Lisieux was the namesake.

I don't think it was ever popular enough to be strongly dated in the same way as Linda or Sharon, but at the same time it would be unusual on a young person.

Frazzled2207 · 26/09/2022 07:45

No but I considered calling my baby Tess (had a boy).

Needmorelego · 26/09/2022 07:51

I think Tessa is nicer personally and the Tess shortening makes more sense.
I know a Therese and her mum calls her what sounds like "Trezzz" in a rather fingers down a blackboard way (that's just the mum's way - she has a loud voice 😂).

People pronounce it either T'rees or Tuh- Rays (which sounds more French). Which would you use?

FayCarew · 26/09/2022 08:31

Terreeze or Terr-ez?
Tess is nice.

Ms Coffey would put me off

Yes, St Therese of Lisieux is the namesake, hence why I want Therese as the full name despite preferring Tess. I have always loved Tess so was very excited to see it’s the traditional nickname for Therese!

I like Tess but dislike Therese. It's a nun's name for me.

That is kind of our aim! We would be naming her after St Therese of Lisieux who was a nun! Thought Tess would be a fresher/lighter/more modern feeling name for a nickname

Lovely name and Tess is underused at the moment IMO

Oh I know all about St Therese. 14 years in convent schools.
