Hopefully last baby name poll before I birth the child!

what would you use for the birth certificate?
I personally think Frank officially and nicknamed Frankie due to when they’re older etc
OH thinks Frankie officially as Frank can be a bit harsh sounding.
help!

I think of the two, you are right.
I have an uncle Francis who was called Frankie as a child and Frank by most people as an adult. The family still call him Frankie but I think it would sound odd for it to be his official name as a sixty year old man.

I’m married to a Frank (and it’s Frank on the BC). Do many people assume it’s a nickname or a short form of Francis. But it suits him. When I first met him I cringed a little when he told me his name because it sounds so…I don’t know, old? But I like it now.

YourWinter · 24/09/2022 23:04

Use the grown-up name. Family and friends may well add the -ie throughout his life, but it doesn’t befit an adult possibly in a professional capacity. He can expect to be an independent adult for many more decades than he will be a little boy.

Francis would be my choice

Newmum1996 · 25/09/2022 14:08

Thanks all! Glad you all agree with me on this one! It’s still undecided that this is what we’ll go with for the baby but it seems to be the only one we agree one and that everybody seems to like! Weird because I’d never of thought of frank/Frankie before and always thought It seemed too ‘old’ before but I think it’s sticking now Xx

I have a Franklin.
Nn Frankie and birth certificate Franklin.

He gets frank a lot too - officially I'd put down frank h

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/09/2022 14:34

Frank of the two, but would personally use Francis or even Franklin on the birth cert.

HuntingoftheSnark · 25/09/2022 14:59

Frank! I can't hear Frankie without "do you remember me?" Sister Sledge. But Francis is a lovely name too.

user1492757084 · 25/09/2022 15:04

Francis

Zosime · 25/09/2022 15:06

Francis would be my choice

Mine too.

Twizbe · 25/09/2022 15:12

Francis on the BC.

Frankie is a girl's name to me but that's because my mum uses it as short for Frances.

toastofthetown · 25/09/2022 15:17

Frank. Frank doesn't need to be short for Francis or Franklin unless that's what you want. It's a standalone name. Frank is an older name than Francis.

Scarecrowrowboat · 25/09/2022 15:18

Frank, Frankie is nice although I think of it as a girls name more.

37andfree · 26/09/2022 20:11

Frank is a name in its own right, out of the two I would pick Francis over Franklin but I’d be tempted to go just Frank
lovely name by the way.

DappledThings · 26/09/2022 22:52

Francis.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 26/09/2022 22:57

Of the two I would definitely do Frank on the BC and Frankie as a nn.

But i personal would (and did) opt for Francis on the BC. Over the years he’s been Frankie, Frank, Fran and France.
