Are Ottilie and Felicity too similar for a sibling set do you think?

what would you think if you heard them introduced together?

i absolutely love them and no other names come close but just worried about them sounding similar…

They don't sound anything alike and are both lovely names.

Skiingwithgin · 15/09/2022 04:06

Thanks @VelvetKitty can you tell I’m over thinking this (39 weeks and awake at 4am) lol.
I think it was the similarity in syllables and ending in an ee sound.

glad you like the names!

I think they work well together!

I think they are similar - I admit I don’t like Ottilie at all, while I think Felicity is nice, though.

toastofthetown · 15/09/2022 08:52

I can see why you think they might be too similar. Both a little harsh sounding with the short I sounds and -ee end. I’m not a huge fan of either name for the same reasons (but that’s just my taste - there’s nothing bad about either of them and they’re popular enough) . I don’t actually think they are too close for sisters. Especially with nicknames sounding totally separate: Fliss/Flick and Ottie.

KirstenBlest · 15/09/2022 08:56

Not a fan of either. Felicity is ok but too long. Ottilie is nice in the german pronunciation (Ottilia), but otherwise a bit too utterly ottery.

YouSoundLovely · 15/09/2022 08:57

As long as you pronounce Ottilie the correct way (Ottili-uh, stress on the first 'i') than they sound different enough. The (rather strange IMO) English pronunciation that seems to have emerged (OTT-uhly) makes them sound too much the same and turns them into a bit of a tongue twister tbh.

Presuming you haven't given Ottilie as a name yet (or these are for twins), you could use something like Clementine or Harriet instead. Or something pretty and slightly retro like Caroline or Rebecca.

I think they sound good together.sadly Otillie makes me think of the name Atilla and I can’t get past that

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/09/2022 17:24

I think they are a bit too fussy as a combo

But I find Ottilie very fussy and faddy anyway

Felicity is nice

MrsMitford3 · 15/09/2022 17:28

Would they be Flissy and Ottie?
