Not heard it much near us just wondering if anyone else thinks it is popular?

I don’t think so.

The traditional 4 syllable pronunciation is lovely. Al-ee-sha is not.

It makes a nice change from Alice

AmberGer · 13/09/2022 21:06

Not popular but lovely. I only know one.

toastofthetown · 13/09/2022 21:24

Here's Alicia's popularity in England and Wales.

BestCatMumEver · 13/09/2022 21:38

I love it, it’s one of my favourite names. I know a grown up Alicia. Don’t know any small ones.

Pronounced Alis-ee-a, not Alisha.

chatterbug22 · 13/09/2022 22:36

It’s a really pretty name. It was popular around 2003-2008, so not anymore certainly. Great if you want an uncommon name but one that will be recognisable, easy to say and spell for all.

Kanaloa · 13/09/2022 22:37

I’ve never met one, although I used to look after an Elyssia which was pronounced similarly to Alicia. I think it’s a lovely name. I used to love Alicia from Malory Towers. Although looking back she was a right bullying little Madame. Still love the name Alicia though!

I really Like the (British?) pronunciation Al-ici-ya

but I don’t like the (American?) pronounciation Al-ee-sha

FeedMeSantiago · 14/09/2022 08:56

I've only ever met one Alicia, she'd be about 30 now. She pronounced it Ah-liss-ee-ah but as she got to the noughties people increasingly mispronounced it as Ah-Lee-sha.

I think it's a lovely name.

mogwa · 14/09/2022 08:56

Maybe it was 20 years ago when Alicia Keys had her breakthrough. But not anymore. I think it's a nice name. The only downside is the ambiguous pronunciation.

caitlinrose · 14/09/2022 11:47

When you combine spellings I guess it was popular in the 90s.

It depends on how you pronounce it.

ah-lee-sha would have been common (but not extremely common) I'd say. But some were Alicia, some Alisha and some Alysha or even Alesha etc.

But if you say it ah-lee-see-ah I'd say uncommon. I think these days ah-lee-sha isn't common either but feels a bit out of style and she'll meet older ones.

KirstenBlest · 14/09/2022 14:29

l say it to rhyme with Patricia/Trisha, but others say Aliss-i-a or Al-eesha, neither of which I like.

KirstenBlest · 14/09/2022 14:31

Other than that, I only know 3, one of whom is Polish so is probably Alicja or something

Lilacsunflowers · 14/09/2022 14:56

It feels a little dated - it was popular 15 years ago.

21secondstogo · 14/09/2022 15:03

I know lots (teacher.) They would be late teens/early 20s now probably which fits in with the graph.

Lovely name. I always thought it was pronounced Alissia but younger ones I know pronounce it Aleesha.

Accountsdept · 14/09/2022 15:06

My sister is called Alicia, i love it! Shes 37

Spidey66 · 14/09/2022 15:14

I like it but with the Alis-ee-a pronunciation.

LunaLoveFood · 14/09/2022 15:52

I know three with three different pronunciations-

Al-is-ee-a

A-leesh-a

A-liss-a

All with the same spelling.

demokitty · 14/09/2022 16:26

I like it pronounced A-liss-ee-uh

Alicia Silverstone (from Clueless if you remember that) pronounces her name as A-leese-ee-uh
