Clemency

Thoughts on Clemency as a sister to Jemima, Tabitha and Reuben? Would probably use nickname Cece rather than Clem/mie, but like both!

Also, middle name ideas?

I associate it with pardons for inmates on death row. A reference to a horrible aspect of American life in other words.

If you think you'll use the NN Cece, then Cecelia is the obvious name to derive that from.

Other options:
Claudia
Cornelia
Caroline
Charlotte
Charis

Clemence is 'Clem-awnce'.

Magenta82 · 11/09/2022 16:48

Reminds me of someone sentenced to death begging for their life.

oceanbleu · 11/09/2022 16:51

Or just Clemence?

oceanbleu · 11/09/2022 16:51

Pronounced clem-unce

Gr33ngr33ngr4ss · 11/09/2022 16:53

Francine if you like Cici?

(Hanging out with Cici - written by Francine Pascal of SVH fame! I loved it as a kid!)

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 11/09/2022 16:54

Not Clemency.

partypingal · 11/09/2022 16:57

Clemency always shortened to Clemmie which sounds too much like clammy to me.

strawberry2017 · 11/09/2022 16:37

It's bloody awful.

⬆️ This.

Clemency is lovely, I adore virtue names.

Patience is nice too, and I know a beautiful little girl named Confidence

I adore virtue names also. I love Clemency.

I also love Honour.

And in a throwback to the very old virtue names I love Temperance and Deliverance.

I think Clemency works really well with the names of your other Dcs.

ideasmirrour · 11/09/2022 17:05

What about one of:

Francesca
Clea
Christabel
Cecelia/Cecilia/Cecile/Cecilie?

Cece would work as a nickname for Cecilia of course; and also Francesca, IMO.

I’m always a bit undecided on Clemency. It’s a pretty sound but it also does make me think of medieval prisoners begging to be saved from execution 😂

purplecheesecat · 11/09/2022 17:11

I think Clementine or Clémence would be a much better choice.

JustMaggie · 11/09/2022 17:20

Clemency is WAY NICER than Clementine.

amylou8 · 11/09/2022 17:26

Sorry it makes me think of someone on death row. Clearly I've been watching too much Netflix.

obsessedwithsleep · 11/09/2022 18:27

Clemency is beautiful. I think a single syllable middle name like Rose.

timeonhands · 11/09/2022 18:42

Clements?

StellaOlivetti · 11/09/2022 18:46

I love it!

INXS21 · 11/09/2022 18:49

It’s lovely, also Clementine. I was at school with a Clementina, which is also think is very nice. She was known as Tina, rather than Clem or Clemmie.

jrt2022 · 11/09/2022 14:40

I like Clemency because of the religious aspect, I think Clementine loses that? And Clementine has also got very popular in my hometown lately. I know 3 under 3 which isn't loads, but also always seeing it on name boards and considering how rare it was before makes me worry it might date badly.

Clementine is the female version of Pope Clement. Arguably more religious therefore than Clemency.

I love Clementine - pronounces the English way rather than the American way though.

Beentheredunnthat · 15/09/2022 07:06

Clemency meaning- "Clemency is the process by which a governor, president, or administrative board may reduce a defendant's sentence or grant a pardon."

Do you really want a name that is linked to a prison sentence/crime/criminal?

Thats so funny to me. Names arent soley based on how the word sounds to say you also need to consider their meaning.

Snowiscold · 15/09/2022 07:44

I like Clemency much more than Clementine. I really dislike Clemmie and Clem, though, and that might be enough to put me off. I can’t decide if it goes with your other DC names, though, which are all OT and Clemency isn’t. But it does have a Puritan vibe, which does fit the other names.

Snowiscold · 15/09/2022 07:49

I don’t know why people are going on about death row. The dictionary meaning - Collins - has two meanings, and both are nice:

  1. mercy or leniency
2. mildness, esp of the weather”
ZoyaTheDestroyer · 15/09/2022 11:25

I love Clemency, and Clement for a boy.

mathanxiety · 15/09/2022 16:55

@Snowiscold

People mention death row because granting clemency is the official procedure for a state to show mercy or leniency to a condemned prisoner.

ilovepixie · 15/09/2022 17:18

I love it. Very Chalet school.

Greenlee · 16/09/2022 00:14

What about Cadence?
Or if you really love "virtue" names:
Chastity
Constance
Verity
Amity
Charity
Temperance
