What’s Bloody Norah? 😕

Also I have never heard of Norah Batty!

Off for a Google!

I also thought bloody Nora/Nora Batty - it's always felt quite a plain name to me. I hear Gnawer and think of Guinea pigs.

Honora is lovely though, or Elinora.

hop321 · 08/09/2022 08:04

Bloody Nora is a silly half-sweary saying that people used because it sounded slightly more polite than saying bloody hell.

Sockwomble · 08/09/2022 08:16

There are a few Irish Honoras in my family tree.
Nora for me is Nora Batty.

ChagSameachDoreen · 08/09/2022 08:23

Norah is a lovely name.

Snugglemonkey · 08/09/2022 08:53

I like Nora, though not Honour or Honora.

JubileeTissues · 08/09/2022 09:02

No

Nora batty, bloody Norah, nosey Norah, nitty Norah.

It's endless. Don't saddle a kid with that

DisplayPurposesOnly · 08/09/2022 09:06

I like Nora.

Never heard of Honora before, assumed it was a typo for Honoria.

Mummytobe333 · 08/09/2022 09:11

I don’t like Nora however love Cora (unsure why when it’s only a letter different!!)

KirstenBlest · 08/09/2022 09:12

Norah is ok,not so keen on Nora. Flamin' nora, springs to mind
Honor is nice but not Honora or Eleanora.
Honor needs to go with the surname - it sounds like On a.

yikesanotherbooboo · 08/09/2022 11:57

Honor and Nora are the names of rather impressive Victorian era women in our family so I am v well disposed towards both.
I think they are both current sounding without being over done.Like some Pps I prefer the simpler spellings.

DurdleSnore · 08/09/2022 12:19

Love Norah and Honor. Ditch Honora.

mogwa · 08/09/2022 14:15

I like Nora/Norah. It's one of the few Irish girl's names that are used worldwide. I like Honora too.
The spelling Norah reminds of Norah Jones and her music.
I've never heard of Nora Batty and where I live people don't say "Blood Nora" so neither is an association for me.

TrueNorthernBird · 08/09/2022 14:18

I find Nora(h) very unattractive. Deeply old fashioned and synonymous with names such as Doris or Ethel.

I also think, 'Nora Tits Off' but that could just be my family!

Your other choice is far prettier.

Crunchymum · 08/09/2022 14:18

How are we pronouncing Honor?

MrsMop1964 · 08/09/2022 14:23

Nitty Nora was my first thought but kids these days wouldn't make the association. My grandma was a Nora , and I'm nearly 60 so for me it's an old lady name. But I guess things come back around.

KirstenBlest · 08/09/2022 14:24

@Crunchymum , like Honour

Hobbesmanc · 08/09/2022 15:04

I love Norah. Feisty and strong. I think of Catherine Cookson heroines and gorgeous Irish girls in shawls arriving at Ellis Island. And Norah in The Secret Island- one of my favourite Blyton's (probably why I love Peggy to)

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 08/09/2022 15:07

Love Norah/Nora. Really don't like Honora or Leonora etc.

demokitty · 08/09/2022 16:08

Not keen on Nora. Makes me think of gnawing!!

Honora is weird.

Honour is okay.

Leonora is quite nice but would shorten it to Leo or Lennie, rather than Nora.

Igloolife · 14/09/2022 02:27

Not heard of the bloody Nora etc. before, I like it! Reminds me of Norah Jones…brings to mind a free spirited gentle calm feminine lady

Roselilly36 · 14/09/2022 05:03

I don’t like it, sorry OP.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 14/09/2022 05:25

It's a bit dated for me, and not in a nice old way just a bit like sharon or linda

Cindie943811A · 15/09/2022 22:58

Nora is a bit too close to gnawer ( as in a rodent) or, if you like, gnaw a bone.

Daydreambeliever1175 · 16/09/2022 19:38

I like Norah, but only with the "h" for some reason.
I think the "h" changes the whole perspective and adds something "more" to it!
