Opinions on the name Menna? Apparently it has Welsh origins but also Arabic? What does the name make you think of? Is it easy to say in different languages? Thanks in advance.

I love it. I know it as a Welsh name but would say it's universal and unambiguous to spell / say

hewouldwouldnthe · 05/09/2022 21:50

Sounds like they are about to say menopause.

Luredbyapomegranate · 05/09/2022 22:38

Could it be a new word for women? 😁

CourtneeLuv · 05/09/2022 22:41

Meena is nicer

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/09/2022 22:44

I know one. It's ok. I don't think her parents have any Welsh connections.

OctopusBreath · 05/09/2022 22:46

Menna is Welsh. Not sure if the Arabic version has two ns...
Lovely lovely name but I'd only use it if you're Welsh. Always find it odd when people use names from languages/cultures they have no connection to.

MissVantaBlack · 05/09/2022 22:47

My DD used to talk about "mennastation" after the class period talk, so to me it sounds too similar to menstruation. Sorry!

ChagSameachDoreen · 05/09/2022 22:49

Sounds like a feminine hygiene brand.

ContSalw · 05/09/2022 22:51

I love the name Menna, such a pretty Welsh name. I also really like Mared.b

Saynotothefishtank · 05/09/2022 22:55

Teens will make menopause jokes

She’d get the nickname “men”

You can do better for your daughter OP. There’s good reasons it’s so unpopular.

I don’t understand that argument. Is every Aaron / Esther/ Ben/ Joseph you know Jewish?

TabithaTittlemouse · 05/09/2022 23:02

I prefer Mena.

abblie · 05/09/2022 23:43

Love this name so much my partners sister was called meena always said if I ever had a daughter I would call her this

GlassDeli · 06/09/2022 03:54

How about Morwenna?

hamdden12 · 06/09/2022 04:48

I know quite a few Menna's, it's popular in Wales. I like it and also like Manon which means beautiful Queen.

JosieK8 · 06/09/2022 07:48

Haha hadn’t thought of that

KirstenBlest · 06/09/2022 10:05

Menna is welsh. It's used and won't be considered unusual, but I wounldn't say it was popular.

@Dotcheck , there's a bit of a difference between using biblical names and names from a language only spoken by about 100,000 people

Frazzled2207 · 06/09/2022 10:10

very nice welsh name
however it would be pronounced differently in England, if that’s where you are
wales-
menna…a is like the a in cat but is not stressed.
england….mennuh or menner. Not nice IMO.

hotdiggetydog · 06/09/2022 10:17

Awful

KirstenBlest · 06/09/2022 10:52

@Frazzled2207 , the same goes for most welsh names. Manon is nice enough but Mannun isn't. Morwenna is cornish but Morwen (MORR-wenn) is welsh.

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 06/09/2022 21:27

It makes me think of men (which would be her nickname) and menopause.

Not nice.
