Baby names

Name that can be said two ways

RuthW · 04/09/2022 21:39

Just for fun as I'm never going to be naming another baby.

Some names I would avoid as I like them said one way but others say another way.

Aaron
Evelyn
Megan
Esme
Michelle
Clementine
Naomi
Rene

There are loads more, but can't think of any more at the moment.

Megan can be pronounced MEE-gan (not very often though). Megan Follows who played Anne in the classic Anne of Green Gables programme pronounces her name this way.

Does anyone actually say Mee-shell or was that just a once off to fit with the song?

A family friend growing up had a cousin who pronounced it like that so yes, although uncommon I think.

I love the name Andrea pronounced Arn-dray-a, but in England it's pronounced And-ree-a.

Aaron - think it's ah-un vs air-un
Evelyn - eve-lyn vs ever-lyn
Megan - Meg-an vs me-gan
Esme - es-me vs es-may
No idea on the rest

Always been ez-mee until the last ten years or so when it's turned into ez-may

Never heard of an ez-mee. I grew up around a few older ladies with the name and they were always ez-may.

Clementine could be Clemen-tyne or Clemen-teen

Most of these are accent variations, or names from different languages vs English pronunciation.

I’d never heard it pronounced Es-mee until I came on MN.

To me, it’s like pronouncing Renée as Rennie 😬😬

I've never heard a Meegan or a Jaymay.

If American pronunciations are included then Graham and Craig seem to be pronounced very differently there.

One of my best friends is a Meagan, first syllable to rhyme with ‘sea’.
