Hey just wondering what people prefer out of these 2 names please? We are stuck between both!

OP posts:
abovedecknotbelow · 03/09/2022 18:41

I love Cora

Tierne · 03/09/2022 18:42

Both sound matronly

GingerPigz · 03/09/2022 18:42

Thea! Old English teacher was called Cora - she was lovely but had terrible bad breath.

Rhaenys · 03/09/2022 20:35

I personally prefer Cora.

DandelionPocket · 03/09/2022 20:37

Cora

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 03/09/2022 20:39

Why the current Mumsnet love for these 2 names? They're very frumpy. Thea will be pronounced as Feea by some and cora = corer, a kitchen implement. Both awful I'm afraid.

MikiSu · 03/09/2022 20:40

I love both but slight preference for Thea

Hadtocomment · 03/09/2022 22:01

How about Clea? Sort of combines what is nice about the two and avoids possible frumpiness and also isn't as known and used as Thea or Cleo which is close. It's a proper name meaning glory or glorious or something like that.

raindon · 03/09/2022 22:02

I hate Cora, it's probably the local accent though. Althea is nice. Or Thea if you must.

Ilikecheeseontoast · 03/09/2022 22:05

I think they’re both lovely! Cora makes me think of the lady from Downton Abbey. They were both on my list for my daughter, as was Rosa and Nancy.

DramaAlpaca · 03/09/2022 22:22

Both are dowdy, and Thea is wishywashy to boot. Cora is marginally better.

IStandWithMaya · 03/09/2022 23:51

Cora

sageandbasil · 04/09/2022 00:07

Thea

Joonio · 04/09/2022 00:19

Both awful.

KirstenBlest · 04/09/2022 20:26

Not keen on Cora but I don't like Thea (or Theo)

Mummytobe333 · 05/09/2022 06:56

@Tierne @KirstenBlest @Joonio @DramaAlpaca @halfsiesonapotnoodle @raindon just curious where in the world you all stay? 😊 Just seeing if the people who aren’t keen on the name stay in different parts of the world where name choices are different or from the same country as me.
thanks everyone 💓

UK. Most people on MN are from/in the UK.

goldfinchonthelawn · 05/09/2022 07:37

I love Thea. Don't think it;s frumpy at all. It's elegant.
I've always hated the name Cora. It reminds me of the sound the rooks make in our garden when I put out bread for the birds. Really screeechy caw-caw noise.

BloodyCamping · 05/09/2022 07:41

Thea is beautiful, Cora is nice but a firm second place

Wales!

ChagSameachDoreen · 05/09/2022 10:01

Cora is marginally better, but sounds like a type of astringent mouthwash.

Thea means "god". I'm not sure why you'd want to name a child that.

resm · 08/09/2022 20:57

I’m from Ireland, Cora is beautiful. Not keen on Thea, but just my personal taste.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 08/09/2022 23:33

How about
Fay
Freya
Faith
Tessa
Connie
Theresa
Dora
Laura

Craftybodger · 08/09/2022 23:43

Like them both. I would choose Cora. I’m in Wales.

ReadtheReviews · 09/09/2022 00:10

Coral. Thea sounds too theological.
