Anya or Thea?

Hey, mums. I’ve hit a roadblock in my baby name decision and I would LOVE to hear your opinions on it. I’m stuck between two pretty international names, Thea and Anya. I’ve chosen them because the pronunciation doesn’t change much from country to country and language to language (though they’re definitely not always the same) and we speak 6 different languages at home and are often back and forth between three countries, which may or may not continue in the future. The roadblock is, that I now love both and can’t decide. Having both as a first and middle is not an option though.
For the surname Ramshorn, would you vote for Thea or Anya?

I know an 18 year old Thea and she regularly gets her name mispronounced. She gets "tee-a" and "tay-a" quite often.

Mummytobe333 · 25/08/2022 19:03

Thea 😊 lovely name!

DuchessOfSausage · 25/08/2022 19:16

Anya. I don't like Thea and people say it like Fear

ellwmram · 25/08/2022 19:20

Interesting!! Where I’m from, we would say tee-a, where my husband is from, they say tay-a, I assumed most English speakers would say thee-a.

I prefer Anya. Thea seems more feeble and faddy to me.

Cleebope2 · 25/08/2022 19:26

Anya

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/08/2022 19:30

Anya. Although prefer the classic Anna.

Too many people can’t say Thea properly, it always sounds like it should be short for something, and what with all the Theos it’s overused.

dalisdrippingclock · 25/08/2022 19:37

I've always loved Thea, but in my area a lot of people would pronounce it as Fea. Anya is gorgeous and less likely to be mangled!

LadyKenya · 25/08/2022 19:41

Thea

PatsyJStone · 25/08/2022 19:44

Know one very young Thea, no problems being pronounced correctly (Th eea) that I've seen yet.
Anya also lovely.

Kanaloa · 25/08/2022 19:46

They’re both nice but I prefer Anya. There’s at least two boys in every nursery group called Theo and Thea blends with them, plus I’ve met a few baby Theas recently too. Anya is unusual, pretty, and strong.

DramaAlpaca · 25/08/2022 22:21

Anya by miles.

I can't bear Thea, such a weak sounding wet name.

Winter2020 · 25/08/2022 22:26

Has to be said with that shortlist - Anthea?

WitTanks · 25/08/2022 22:28

I think both are a bit 'emperors new clothes' tbh and very overused

QuePrima · 25/08/2022 22:35

I went to school with a Thea. She was horrid but I loved the name and have never met another. I love Theodora. I know that's not what you asked but you could have Thea as a nickname for Theodora.

Derrymum123 · 25/08/2022 22:39

Anya is a beautiful name. Not too keen on Thea.

EL8888 · 26/08/2022 17:10

I prefer Thea

I could never use it sadly, as where we live 90% of people pronounce it Feea 😓

Emz555 · 13/09/2022 20:28

Middle name for Thea.... I already have a dd, Orla Rose. Love Thea, and Eve or Eva, so wondering if Thea Eve works, or if it's too short?

KylieCharlene · 13/09/2022 20:33

Anya
Although prefer Ananya

Mummytobe333 · 13/09/2022 21:16

Love Thea 💗

Purpletopaz42 · 13/09/2022 21:51

I think Thea is really nice
