Do the 2 names go together?

We have a son called Wilf (Wilfred).

Pregnant with second baby, but not finding out gender. In the event it’s a boy, we have always liked Kit. My best friend asked me what our name choice was and I said this, and she said ‘it’s nice, but not sure it works alongside the name Wilf, as brothers. One is old fashioned, the other not so’. What are people’s thoughts on this please?
Many thanks!

I agree with your friend but at the end of the day what anyone else thinks is irrelevant. If you like it then go for it.

Soubriquet · 24/08/2022 19:26

Do they have to go?

I mean, it’s a separate child, a separate name. Doesn’t necessarily have to match

twofojoy · 24/08/2022 19:29

I guess it depends if you think it does or not?

I did find it a little bit harder with DC2 because you do want them to somewhat go together. I always find myself saying their names together so it's definitely something to consider.

Both lovely names. In my opinion Wilf & Kit sounds ok together.

Lemonsyellow · 24/08/2022 19:29

I think they’re both pretty old-fashioned. I would have Kit short for something, though.

MrsU2022 · 24/08/2022 19:30

I personally think they sound good together - both edgy and unique. I like it!

Mangotango123 · 24/08/2022 19:34

All lovely responses thank you so much. It’s hard - I guess in a way I want the names to work in harmony together, and not to sound weird together if that makes sense!

I think they are both lovely names ❤

This.

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/08/2022 20:22

It works fine but needs to be Christian / Christopher / Kester nn Kit, as is traditional - then it goes with Wilfred

Redkite11 · 24/08/2022 20:26

I think they sound fine together. The children are not joined at the hip and so I don’t think you’ll often have to refer to them both in the same sentence forever.

Whiskeypowers · 24/08/2022 20:28

I have a Kit so am biased but I think it does make a nice sib set with Wilf

DuchessOfSausage · 25/08/2022 08:44

Not keen on Kit, but like a pp said, they go together ok

Oysterbabe · 25/08/2022 08:51

I think they work together too. I would call him Christopher with Kit for short though.

LittleBirdBlu · 25/08/2022 09:14

I think they're both great names and go together just fine.

Gonnagetacatwhenimovein · 25/08/2022 09:16

Wilfred and Christopher (Wilf and Kit) work well

Cleopatra67 · 25/08/2022 09:25

Kit is actually more old fashioned than Wilf. Shakespeare’s contemporary Christopher Marlowe was Kit. It’s just that it’s quite popular now. Both great names.

Cautiouselectric · 25/08/2022 09:26

They go really well! And both are old fashioned. Not sure what your friend is talking about!

Workawayxx · 25/08/2022 09:26

Kit isn’t a modern name, it’s just a short name for Christopher or similar. I think they sound lovely together!

DaisyJoy1 · 25/08/2022 14:41

They both have a vintage feel, Kit isn’t a modern invention. Wilf is a nn for Wilfred and Kit for Christopher. They go well together.

Eixample · 25/08/2022 14:45

Which one does she think isn’t old-fashioned? I genuinely can’t tell. Kit seems very old to me because of Christopher Marlowe, but she can’t mean that Wilf is newfangled.
Great names for brothers imho.

Aquamarine1029 · 25/08/2022 14:47

I wouldn't name a boy just Kit. He's not always going to be a baby/little boy.

DuchessOfSausage · 25/08/2022 15:59

Kit is one of those names that was hardly used, and was generally considered to be a bit 'posh'. It will quickly seem to be a downmarket name.

Polimolly · 25/08/2022 17:34

I never understand why names have to go with each other. I rarely speak to my sister. In fact I have not seen her for years so what does it matter if her name goes or doesn't go with mine? It's only for a very short period of their life that they will be mentioned as a pair regularly.

I would honestly choose any name you like

pilates · 25/08/2022 17:55

I would have Christopher on the birth certificate and yes they are fine together

drinkallthecoffee · 25/08/2022 18:00

I like them together. I've heard of Kit being short for Atticus.
