Thoughts on Kitty for a girl? Would be Katrina on birth certificate but she would be known as Kitty

Thanks

Lovely. I know a girl with their name and she's great so I like the name too

Soubriquet · 24/08/2022 18:13

I like Kitty. I wouldn’t even do a longer name but I know some people can be snobs over “nickname” names

PrettyIndigo · 24/08/2022 18:16

Just so she has the choice to go by something else when she's older If she doesn't like it. Also Katrina has family connotations 😊

ChagSameachDoreen · 24/08/2022 18:17

I love it.

Prunel · 24/08/2022 18:18

I love Katrina
but I’ve heard way too many people refer to their vagina as their kitty to be able to use it, I always think it’s an odd choice
the modern day fanny

Name change fail 😬

Do they? Thanks, I've never heard that before

I suppose it’s a version of p**s’y isn’t it.
i would say quite grim to use it in that context because kitty is an otherwise cute name - probably why they use it….

But still find it jarring as a name for an innocent child.

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/08/2022 18:24

Grand as a nick name, she can be Kit or Kat or Katrina if she wants, as she gets older

I’ve never heard this I have to say. Kitty was very popular in the late 90s so I know a few in their 20s, who don’t seem to have an issue. Plus Christopher nn Kit is very popular for boys right now… so… it seems fine to me.

MotherOfCrocodiles · 24/08/2022 18:45

Great name!

Gingernut1989 · 24/03/2025 13:32

I'm pregnant with number 3 but my middle child is 12 years old and called Kitty. Never met another. Its short for Kathleen which was also my granny's name and her namesake. I'm googling my children's current names so resurrecting this old thread from 2022 to say it's gorgeous and my daughter suits it perfectly 😊 she has auburn curly hair (ringlets) and as I saw on another thread they would get stick for it (she never ever has)

DuchessOfNarcissex · 24/03/2025 13:46

Kitty is OK. I don't like Katrina. Katherine is better IMO, but if it's a family name, go for it.

Bluelavenders · 24/03/2025 14:15

Katrina is a lovely name.

Kitty is really not good - it’s slang for vagina. It’s also too twee and childish at the same time.

Twee and try-hard.

LilyJosephine · 24/03/2025 23:49

Kitty is a very cute/lovely nn, and Katrina is nice enough (though I personally prefer the Shakespearean Katharina spelling). I agree with using something longer on the BC as some adults may not be keen on Kitty.

user1492757084 · 25/03/2025 04:00

Kitty is a long standing nick name for Catherine, Kathleen, Katharine, Catriona and Katarina etc.

I love it.

RuthW · 25/03/2025 16:20

Lovely. Go for it.

KayEmAy · 25/03/2025 20:32

It's cute, but I like Kit more

ThunderFog · 26/03/2025 06:42

How irritating! When and where is it used in this way? And seriously, how many women do you talk to about their privates that you even know what they call them? Or is this "Google says so so it must be true"?
There is a Kit or Kitty in every sibset on both sides of my family, with various formal names, mostly variations of Katharine or Christopher/Christine etc. It's a classic name.
I'm very reliably informed that pussy is from Old Norse posi "pouch, purse, small bag" and fanny is from the same origin as the Latin word so both are colloquial functional words not euphemisms based on personal names.
In any case, if you want to use a girl's name for your privates because you're too coy to use the word established for hundreds of years, don't you need it to stay in use as an actual name?

DuchessOfNarcissex · 26/03/2025 10:03

@ThunderFog , I'd never heard it before.
