Which do you prefer? For me it’s the classic Francis but DH prefers Franklin. I am happy to register as Frank if we cannot agree

I like Franklin.

DeeDeeDaisy · 24/08/2022 16:07

One vote for Francis!

CoalTit · 24/08/2022 16:09

Francis

HappyHappyHermit · 24/08/2022 16:13

Franklin, Francis is a bit like Cecil in style to me and I'm not too keen.

salharg · 24/08/2022 16:18

DH read that Francis was wet but my problem
is for me Franklin sounds very american

Really dislike Francis it’s so drippy, sorry.

bridgetreilly · 24/08/2022 16:20

Just Frank.

happinesslovescompany · 24/08/2022 16:49

I had a lovely cousin named Franklin who was born in the uk in the sixties. I vote Franklin! Francis makes me think of this

Francis nn Frank or Franklin
happinesslovescompany · 24/08/2022 16:50

I've always associated Francis with a bald pate and all round fringe!

IsJohnReadyToMakeAComeback · 24/08/2022 16:50

Franklin nn Frank.

To me Francis is a very wet name, a bit like Walter.

ofwarren · 24/08/2022 16:51

I really don't like Francis, is definitely is a wet sounding name.
I'm not usually a fan of American sounding names but I think Franklin is good.

ClocksGoingBackwards · 24/08/2022 16:55

Franklin is much nicer than Frances. I agree it sounds a bit drippy and it just sounds odd, like France is what? Sunny? Dirty? Full of French people?

Frank is nice as well though.

BuenoSucia · 24/08/2022 16:55

if your DH thinks Francis is “wet”, he’s probably not heard of Francis “frank” begbie! 😂

chinuptitsoutonwards · 24/08/2022 17:08

Francis always, it was nearly DS’ name but we changed our minds.

UsernameIsHarderThanBabyName · 24/08/2022 18:22

Just go for Frank!

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/08/2022 19:44

I think you want to give him a longer name than Frank

I like the traditional Francis, but Franklin is nice

Just toss a coin?

FishEagleonthelake · 28/08/2022 03:15

I've just named my nephew Francis, after my father. My brother and his wife like it, especially my brother. Bro is not related to me by blood and never actually met my father, but he lives in a country that venerates saints and familial connections. Francis is the baby's middle name, but my brother prefers it to baby's first name, it seems. My father loathed the nickname Frank. Franklin is an altogether different name. I think it'd be cute if my brother has a second son, he chooses Franklin to pair with Francis. The names have similar, yet distinct meanings and different geographic origins. Choose one or the other, whichever you can agree on, or select another name is my friendly adivice. Good luck and congrats!🤗

BananaSpanner · 28/08/2022 03:53

What about Frankie, I know boy Frankies under 11.

Penguinsaregreat · 28/08/2022 08:17

Francis.

PrettyIndigo · 28/08/2022 08:24

Francis!!

toastofthetown · 28/08/2022 08:50

I prefer Francis to Frank, and I much prefer both to Franklin (which in turn I greatly prefer to Frankie, as suggested by pp). If it's the classicness of Francis that appeals to you, Frank is actually an older name than Francis!

DramaAlpaca · 29/08/2022 00:51

Francis is fine.

Franklin is horrid, as are Frank and Frankie.

Francis is one of those names I'd only use as a middle name because I really dislike the diminutives.

Marcipex · 29/08/2022 01:12

I’m not keen on Frank. It just too obviously has an unfortunate rhyme.
