Would Helena and Marina work for siblings?

What do you think? Can't choose which one I like best, thinking of saving one for the next baby (which better be a girl so I can use the other name)!

I like these - they say barrister who would win. They can see each other in court.

toastofthetown · 23/08/2022 17:57

Sounds fine to me. I can’t see what the problem would be.

DramaAlpaca · 23/08/2022 21:41

Yes, perfect for sisters, as long as you're not pronouncing Helena as hel-EE-na. That's the way it's usually pronounced in Ireland.

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/08/2022 03:22

Yes. They sound clever, accomplished, beautiful (and a little bit wild on the quiet).

Notcreativeatall · 24/08/2022 03:37

very greek sounding esp in combo

Mannymoomin · 24/08/2022 03:41

When I read Marina, my first association was the coil.
Perhaps I’ve spent too many years with one though.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 24/08/2022 05:27

Yes, both elegant, classic, Russian/Greek names. Lovely.

gardenmumma · 24/08/2022 05:50

I really like Marina. I think they go nicely together.

Yika · 24/08/2022 13:50

Yes, perfect combination!

That's mirena which isn't that similar.Confused

Marina makes me think of beautiful boats, but that's fine.Grin

They're both good names, OP, and have a similar sort of vibe to them.

Yep - both lovely, elegant, well known Shakespearean beauties, yet far more popular internationally than they are in this country, with the bonus of lots of nice nn choices if wanted too (Nell/Nella, Leni, Ellie/Elle/Ella; Marnie, May, Mia, Mina etc ). Perfect sibset actually, I'd struggle to choice between them too - although if you end up having a second, it'll probably be a boy for that reason! Smile

Is there a Shakespearean Marina? I can only think of Miranda in The Tempest (thats another good name which would go well with Helena). There is, as it happens a Shakespeare Marina on the Avon

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 24/08/2022 22:45

@ErrolTheDragon Marina is from Pericles (admittedly not one of Shakespeare's more famous plays - might not even have been written wholly by him). The character was so named as she was born at sea. Still think it's gorgeous but yes, Miranda is lovely too - Shakespeare used some great names, especially for girls (fond of Ophelia, Rosalind, Juliet, Nerissa too).

ErrolTheDragon · 24/08/2022 22:50

Thanks! That's not a play I've ever seen. I googled and just got the boaty one.GrinYou're right Shakespeare has some lovely names.
