Max - but one of the middle names has to be Clifford...

Due first baby soon, if it's a boy I'd really like to use Max. But, I forgot that one of DP's family names is Clifford. I'd use another middle name in between Max and Clifford, but even so - is it too soon? To add insult to injury, I really don't like Clifford - but the deal has always been that I can choose the first name if DP gets to give the baby Clifford as a middle name and his (very generic, Smith/Jones type) surname.

Op, he is a convicted paedophile, you can't give your child any combination of those names.

It's not a wind up - DP really wants Clifford as a middle name because most men in his family have had it since the dawn of time, apparently. I think it's genuinely awful for a variety of reasons - and given I've agreed the baby will get DPs surname I think we'll probably end up tossing a coin to decide whether the baby gets Max OR Clifford if I still really like it after the baby is born (and it's a boy).

I really like Max as a first name. Max is not an unusual name, I'm surprised so many of you are finding it difficult to believe.

It'll be because if someone (bizarrely) had to use the 'family name' Clifford (already slightly stretching credibility), they would immediately discount the name 'Max', even if they did particularly love it for some reason.

You simply cannot combine Max and Clifford in any way

TabithaTittlemouse · 19/08/2022 13:44

‘I really like Max as a first name. Max is not an unusual name, I'm surprised so many of you are finding it difficult to believe’

It isn’t the name Max that people are struggling with!

If you are going to do it maybe consider these options:
Max Jimmy Clifford
Max Gary Clifford
Max Rolf Clifford.

I meant to put the quote in bold.

People will forget soon enough.

I didn't call my daughter Bonnie because of the connection to Bonnie Langford and Just William the TV program....no one would know it today though

Yeh Bonnie Langford hardly has the same association as Max Clifford.

Imagine the gasps on his wedding day. ‘Do you Max Clifford take Myra Hindley to be your lawful wedded wife’

Did you report it?

KangarooKenny · 19/08/2022 13:52

Clifford reminds me too much of Cliff Richard. It would be a no from me.

Is he worse than Max Clifford?

WeLoveYouMissHanigan · 19/08/2022 13:57

OP please reconsider your decision to give to your partner like this.

So you’re not married but happy to give the baby both his surnames? Really?

My sister did this too and 12 years down the line regrets it completely

Why do we do this????

You’re doing the majority of the mental and physical load and if you split up it will be all
on you.

Where is your name? Nowhere to be seen? Do you think you deserve more than this? I do!

Soonberaining · 19/08/2022 14:05

Either use Cliff or don't use it at all. Save it for if you have another boy.

Heckythump1 · 19/08/2022 14:44

I really hope you have a girl.

MMBaranova · 19/08/2022 14:46

Maxine rather than Maxwell (yes Mr Clifford was a Maxwell )?

Maireas · 19/08/2022 14:52

No. You're wrong.
Cliff Richard was not arrested and charged with the same offences Max Clifford was. Be careful.

toffeechai · 19/08/2022 17:26

Sorry but no, not even with another name in between.

It’s not just about whether people remember. It’s also about what comes up on Google.
