My ex best friends have my favourite names

I loved the names Alicia and Clementine before I even met these girls. I like unusual names but not 'out there' where there are unlikely to be another child with the same name in the class.

I love the name Alicia and Alice for short. But my best friend was called Alicia and she just ghosted me one day and I never heard from her again.

Everyone in my life, all my extended family watched me grow up with Alicia and I still think about her about her. It's been 6 years now since the ghosting and I would never accept her back into my life. I was heartbroken.

But I also don't want my baby to be named after her which is the first thing everyone I know will think.

I have thought about Alice but it seems so popular that I would prefer to give my child a name which is a little more unique.

The next is Clementine. Clemmie was a university friend and we lived together for four years. She was lovely and we had so much fun. She moved abroad and got quite mean after meeting a new group of very wealthy, influencer friends. She barely replied and when we eventually chatted I felt awful after talking for 30 minutes that I decided she would have to make the effort to still be in my life. She never got back in touch again.

These are the names I have wanted for years and now I'm not sure how to proceed. Do you know any other similar names?

Calliope?
Astrid?
Freya?

Not similar at all. But the names make me smile.

@ChiefWiggumsBoy I love Eleftheria actually - I think it means liberty or freedom. What would be a good nn? I'm not a fan of Elsie

I think you could get away with Ellie or even Allie, or Ria? It’s so pretty though isn’t it?

Zoeslatesttrope · 16/08/2022 20:13

Solange instead of Clementine? Means sun angel
Or Clemency?

Cryingbutstilltrying · 16/08/2022 20:21

The Eleftheria I know goes by Elfi, which I think is so lovely.
Clementine was a uni friend so I don’t think that many people in your life would make the connection. I would use that if you love it.
Alicia I’m never sure on how to say. Plus that sounds like a much more tricky name with your family.
Go with Clemmie or Elfi 😁

Effie for short. Gorgeous!

loosebutton · 17/08/2022 19:24

Alyssa
Felicity
Anthea

I personally wouldn't be able to use Alicia. I know people say use the name you love but I just couldn't have people saying ooh like your friend everytime they heard it.

Tanaqui · 17/08/2022 19:32

I know an Eleftheria shortened to Elia, which is nice (pronounced elly- a)

Squirma · 17/08/2022 21:51

Ellis or Elise and Primrose came to my mind from your likes

SheilaFentiman · 17/08/2022 22:17

Penfelyn · 18/08/2022 00:56

What about Alexia ? That's greek too. Or Alix ? Alyssa ? Alina ? Leslie ? Larissa ?

Clemence ? Clea ? Claudine ? Églantine ?

OnTheVergeOfABreakdown · 18/08/2022 01:34

How about Athena instead of Alicia?

Mozzie123 · 18/08/2022 07:20

I know an Aletha, which is very similar and takes away the ‘lisp’ sound?

Loulou1712 · 18/08/2022 07:40

Athena? If DS1 actually turns out to be a girl (I'm not 100% convinced sonographer is right! 😂) This will be their name.
My eldest is penelope, another good Greek name although becoming more common now x

I don’t care for Elsie but do like Elsa — so much more elegant, I think
