We are due our second baby around Christmas and are keeping the gender a surprise. We have already chosen a boy name but struggling to decide for a girl.
We already have a little boy called Ezra.

Our top 4 girl names:
-Winter
-Soleil or Soleila
-Zira (not sure if too similar to Ezra)
-Sarai

Respectful opinions would be appreciated and any other suggestions welcome. Thank you :)

I really don't like any of those names. Winter is probably the best though.

What about Noelle?

Hadtocomment · 15/08/2022 17:41

Soleila is quite hard to say for me. Is the second l pronounced? Is it pronounced Sol-layla or Sol-lyla? I prefer Solaya (no second l). As others have said Soraya is a very beautiful name.

On names beginning with Sol, I also like the name Soledad which is Spanish but quite unusual in English. But it's quite different in sound and meaning.

Not sure about Winter - seems very different to Soleil in sound and meaning.Other suggestions: Keziah?

Sarai is the kind of name that sounds absolutely beautiful with the emphasis in the right place, but English so often makes beautiful names not sound so lovely by emphasising the first syllable too much. I think that's why I'm also unsure about Soleil, which sounds really lovely in French but sort of needs a lingering emphasis on the second syllable a bit to sound so lovely. As opposed to the first syllable being pushed more like in English and becoming closer to Solly.

I don't know if any of those thoughts helpful OP! Excuse me if I'm being ignorant.

Winter is nice and the best one.

The others are quite tricky to pronounce imo

frenchie4002 · 15/08/2022 17:50

Another vote for Winter

Louise0701 · 15/08/2022 17:52

None.

Nola?
Nala?

babyjellyfish · 15/08/2022 21:23

Not a fan of any of them, sorry.

What about Zalie?

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/08/2022 22:24

Ezra is great with a long history, I think you need to find something similarly fabulous and distinguished for your daughter.

Sarai is nice enough, but I think explaining its not Sara/h will drive her bonkers for life

Zira is ok but a bit nothingy. Also people will mistake it for Zara.

-Winter - gloomy and teenage gothic
-Soleil or Soleila - I know it’s French but in English it sounds like suncream or a Spanish bar

soleil is bizarre. Solene would be better.

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/08/2022 22:35

Oh and Astra

Sarai or Winter

Winter, I wouldn't like for a girl at all, it's very heavy and sounds very masculine to me, I'd presume it was a boy...
Soleil, I just think of the circus!
Zira is a bit curt and abrupt, Zara has more emphasis.
How do you pronounce Sarai? It has potential but I've seen so many names in my profession and haven't a clue how to pronounce that..

ChobKnees · 15/08/2022 22:51

Winter.

And can people fuck off with constantly suggesting those god awful names Aurora and Aurelia!! I swear MN is churning out a thousand baby Aurora's a day at this rate.

LittleGreenBeetle · 15/08/2022 22:53

Winter, definitely, if you're in the northern hemisphere.
Soleila only if you're in the southern hemisphere (and it does sound a bit like a brand of suncream or something!).
I quite like Zira actually but it is rather similar to Ezra.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 15/08/2022 23:23

Sarai is pretty and goes with Ezra
I'm guessing pronunciation is Sar eye?.. or maybe just Sara

Wowitshot · 15/08/2022 23:34

I just find Winter so harsh sounding. A severe older woman with white hair pulled into a bun. Also might end up as Winnie…
I do think Zira is too close to Ezra. My phone auto corrected it to Aziraphale which I should probably take as a sign that I should stop reading Good Omens fanfic.
Sarai is my favourite.

puddingandsun · 15/08/2022 23:48

Nova + Ezra

Mira + Ezra

Rebecca + Ezra

Mumofgirls2017 · 16/08/2022 00:27

I like winter!

Are you deliberately being anti-semitic?

France98 · 16/08/2022 16:35

What about Ziva? Pronounced zeeva

Winter is quite nice! Other suggestions:

Harlow
Tierney
Romy

User6761 · 16/08/2022 16:56

Love Ezra but I don't like the girls names you have listed, sorry. They have a very different vibe to Ezra.

Winter - at a push I'd say this is the best but it's not something I'd like to be called personally.
Soleil - reminds me of the ice lolly
Soleila - looks made up. Not sure how to pronounce it So-lay-la?
Zira - too similar to Ezra
Sarai - looks made up. Pronounced sa-ray?

Maybe some of these are from other languages and I'm just not familiar with them.

Ideas-
Zoe
Noelle
Selena
Serena

Jessbow · 16/08/2022 16:57

Both Miriam & Esther ''fit' with Ezra, as do Tamar & Leah,

LilacSloth · 16/08/2022 17:21

I like Winter from your list but not very keen on the others. How about Natalie? I also really like Holly for a Christmas baby.

Hobbesmanc · 16/08/2022 19:07

I like Stella, Celeste. Astrid. Estella. Seren. Celestial names that fit in with a winter birth. Christmas star and all that

Aurora would also fit but obvs I'm too scared to suggest 😏

PegottyPie · 16/08/2022 19:13

Winter, don't like any of the others
