Good name? Is it becoming so common now it's crossing boundaries between the classes and other demographics? Or do you particular associations with it?

Love it. It's the male in Annie (film) not the musical one.
I love that film.

It's a cute and unused name suits all ages.

whenwillthemadnessend · 14/08/2022 20:00

Annie hall That's the film.

whalleyt · 14/08/2022 20:00

I knew an elderly one, always liked it

Maireas · 14/08/2022 20:01

I've heard it used round here quite a bit recently - the children all seem to be under 5. Quite popular.

17caterpillars1mouse · 14/08/2022 20:03

I only know one Albie (he is 2) but it seems like a name that will become very 'of it's time'.

It's ok, fits in with the boys names ending in ie trend, I'm not a fan of Albert though and I like names like Albie, Freddie etc to have a more serious full name

Bagging · 14/08/2022 20:04

@whenwillthemadnessend , that character appears to be called Alvy. Also it's not an unused name, it's currently the 35th most popular name in England and Wales and has been on the rise for years.

My dad's maternal family are travellers. It's a huge name in the traveller community. As such, that's it's connotation for me and as I'm not a traveller, I just wouldn't use it. Same as Levi, Elijah, Leonora... multiple second and third cousins with these names. Equally my mum's paternal family are Irish and I wouldn't use Siobhan, Niamh or Seamus either as I'm not Irish. If these names are divorced from their roots for you, or you identify with the culture, by all means use them. Same as any name really.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 14/08/2022 20:11

I love it. There's an incredible figure in recent South African history called Albie Sachs who was always an inspiration to me, and I was keen to use the name in honour. Alas it wasn't to be <glares at DH>.

cptartapp · 14/08/2022 20:22

Dreadful.

ofwarren · 14/08/2022 20:23

I've never liked it but I'm not sure why.

Maritimemum · 14/08/2022 20:28

I think it’s nice, but I think better to have Albert on the birth certificate, to give your child options.

Hiphopopotamus · 14/08/2022 20:33

I would be letting my username down if I didn’t point out that Albie was quite a racist dragon. But obviously he’s not racist anymore thanks to the badly burnt Albanian boy so I say go for it!

As a nn for Albert, grand.

Too twee on it’s own

DramaAlpaca · 14/08/2022 21:08

It's too twee for me, I dislike cutesy names.

It is, however, much preferable to Archie and Alfie.

Lazydaisydaydream · 14/08/2022 21:09

The racist dragon - that’s what I immediately think of when I hear the name Albie I’m afraid 😕

MollieTD · 14/08/2022 21:10

I’m glad someone mentioned the racist dragon, that was my first thought too!

Muppethotel · 14/08/2022 21:15

Im not a fan so wouldn’t use it for that reason, but equally it’s hugely popular (so im
obvs wrong!) so I wouldn’t want to use it for that reason mainly!

puddingandsun · 14/08/2022 21:17

We've got so many Albies, Archies and Freddies here, in case popularity is a factor.

Stichintimesavesstapling · 14/08/2022 21:18

Go with Albert then you can choose between Albie, Bert or Bertie.

Albie on its own has a sense of a toy dragon.

Namechangetime89 · 14/08/2022 21:19

i associate it with the traveller community

Hellhath · 14/08/2022 21:22

Albie Archie Alfie
All of a muchness, all shortened from 'old mans' names to be cute and trendy. I personally dislike them all.
My opinion.

Sleepyblueocean · 14/08/2022 21:23

I'd want a formal name for the birth certificate and I don't like Albert.

Dreamingcats · 14/08/2022 21:24

Personally I find all the Albie, Archie, Alfie, Algie, names blend together so I'm not a fan.

WWRGD · 14/08/2022 21:24

I'm another who immediately thought of the racist dragon, sorry
