What do you think? For a girl.

Tamar
lior Is a masculine name isn’t if? Feminine would be liora which is pretty

canyoutoleratethis · 12/08/2022 03:55

I've always loved Noa for a girl, but Noah has been far too popular for boys recently, which would put me off. I like the PP's suggestion of Liora

ReeseWitherfork · 12/08/2022 03:57

Ah see I thought Tamar sounded quite masculine. “Lior” looks like a washing detergent to me. And “Noa” just looks like you’ve misspelt “Noah”. Are you in the UK OP? As they all seem like odd choices to me personally. Do love a nice Old Testament name generally though. Agree Liora is pretty. How about Liva?

Northbynorthbreast · 12/08/2022 04:05

Leonora? Lior is a Jewish boys name

DaisyJoy1 · 12/08/2022 04:10

Lior is a Jewish unisex name 😊 They're all Hebrew names.

Liora is nice but very dated in certain communities.

Lior sounds like Liar.
Noa too close to Noah.
Tamar is a large river between Devon & Cornwall.

Leah or Tamara?

mathanxiety · 12/08/2022 04:13

I love Tamar. It's a timeless name.

Pemba · 12/08/2022 04:20

Tamar (or Tamara) is nice and still reasonably unusual. Noa could be nice but unfortunately sounds the same as Noah, which is so well known as a boy's name. The possible confusion in the future would put me off.

Never heard of Lior, but the pp tells us it's a boy's name. It doesn't sound particularly nice really, and looks similar to 'liar' written down. You could use Lia or Leah? Sorry to be negative, I am just giving you my impressions of the names.

Eek3under3 · 12/08/2022 05:52

I love Noa!

teezletangler · 12/08/2022 06:47

Love both Tamar and Noa

pinklavenders · 12/08/2022 06:47

Noa is beautiful!

Laquila · 12/08/2022 06:49

I like all three but you might find people are confused by where to put the emphasis on Tamar (Ta-MAR Vs TAY-mar).

You might also like Leonor?

CherryMaple · 12/08/2022 06:50

Love Noa for a girl.

Krakinou · 12/08/2022 10:40

Noa is sooo common where I live. It’s the “Ava” of Catalunya so I’m bored of it. In the UK I guess it’s fine, but a bit of a nothing name. Lior and Tamar both sound like male names to me so I prefer Liora and Tamara, and as someone who doesn’t pronounce the “r”, they feel nicer to say. Also I know a truly brilliant Tamara so good associations.

ChagSameachDoreen · 12/08/2022 13:04

I've never known a female Lior.

Liora?

I don't like Noa.

Tamar is a bit abrupt.

How about:

Varda
Tali
Haddasah
Meital
Danya

SpringIntoChaos · 12/08/2022 14:32

I'm confused by all three names honestly...but that's only because I've quite literally never heard of or met anyone (girl or boy) with those names 🤷‍♀️ I'm a primary school teacher too, so thought I'd seen/heard them all 🤣 I'd say pick whichever you like...it's your baby, what does it matter what anyone else thinks as long as it's not actually offensive! 🥰

chesirecat99 · 12/08/2022 15:15

For PPs who think the names sound made up, Tamar is the No 1 name for girls in Israel and Noa is No 4, they are very mainstream Jewish names...

Lior is my favourite. I love it even though I usually hate the current Israeli unisex trend. So many little girls and young women with middle aged men's names 😂

I've always loved Noa but I think it is getting a bit overused. It is a close second for me.

I really don't like Tamar but I have no logical reason why 😂I think the PP who suggested that people won't know how to pronounce it is correct. Noa and Lior are easier to pronuonce correctly for people unfamiliar with the name.

Polimolly · 12/08/2022 15:28

Noa and Tamar are both beautiful. I'm not keen on Lior for girls, although I'm well aware the Hebrew names are valid for both sexes

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/08/2022 15:33

I do hate the trend to give unisex or boys' names to girls. There is always a drift as they become girls' names over time. Basically because no one would dream of giving their boy a girls' name.

'Boy' is a promotion; 'girl' is a demotion. There are so many wonderful Hebrew girls' names.

amylou8 · 12/08/2022 15:38

Tamar is lovely. The other two are nice but I'd assume they were male.

Haus1234 · 12/08/2022 15:39

If you’re in the UK you will likely get a lot of mispronunciations of Tamar to sound like the river in Devon/Cornwall. I like Lior!

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/08/2022 16:19

Tamar I guess

I the the Noa / Noah confusion would be irritating
Lior I really don’t like - makes me think of either Liar or Lenore (the washing powder)

How about Elisheva?! That’s a killer name

KathieFerrars · 12/08/2022 16:24

Tamar. Do you have connections with Cornwall? Have you read the novel by Mal Peet. Really good.

MyBeloved · 12/08/2022 16:26

I love them all!!

Luxa · 12/08/2022 16:48

Tamar is my favourite
