I’m writing a story. I have a list. I prefer a last name with an O so it would stand out. His name would be Joe. He’s a Sicilian Italian-American. Now here’s the list. Help me pick from these names?

Joe Pagano

Joe Capuano

Joe Toscano

Joe Cappello

Joe Catalano

Joe Graziano

Joe Mancuso

Joe Guarino

Joe Cavallo

Joe Martino

Joe Bianchi

Hence the ragging- Tony is very Italian and Shapiro very Jewish 😉
But strangely enough there seem to be a lot of Tony Shapiro’s 🤷🏻‍♀️
Maybe there was a overzealous officer at Ellis Island (they would often give people easier names) or a wonderful crossing cultures midwife called Antonia.
There’s a sub plot for you OP!

I have to admit, I don't know what ragging is. I feel like I should know this, being an American, having lived in New York, AND having had two parents come through Ellis Island from Europe. 😬
Of course, being New York, you'll have lots of Italians who've intermarried with Jews, Greeks, Germans, Peurto Ricans, and of course, the Irish. So in New York, of all places, you'll have Tony Shapiro with a Sicilian mom and an Eastern European Jewish dad. I think Robert DeNiro, the quintessential Italian-American (who probably has more Irish and Central European DNA than Italian) is a great example of a New Yorker.
