I’ve been thinking about this name a lot recently. It’s really pretty and you don’t hear it too often. It’s become increasingly popular in recent years without being overused..do you think it’s likely to date or would it be a good option. Be interested to hear your thoughts as I’m finding girls names so hard! Thank you x

It's OK. Not my preference, but don't think it'll become a super dated name like the really common ones.

I don't think I've ever heard of it before. Is it pronounced like Delia but with an Or sound instead of a D sound?

thelastgreatdynasty · 09/08/2022 18:11

Love it!

I know one (3 year old). I had never heard the name before she was given it. Her nickname is RayRay. It's not my style personally - with 4 syllables I find it a bit too much of a mouthful. But it sounds a very pretty name if that's the vibe you are after.

The one I know pronounces it Au-Ray-Lee-Uh

I know one 8 year old and hear it about in playgrounds etc quite often where I am. I struggled to remember how to pronounce it at first (until someone told me to think of Australia). I think it's growing in popularity but will never be one of those names where there's 5 in one class.

florianfortescue · 09/08/2022 18:20

I love it. We went for a different "ancient Roman" girl's name, but this was on my list.

KirstenBlest · 09/08/2022 18:20

It's less popular than I thought but comes up on here a lot.
It blends in with all the Amelias and Auroras and similar names.

I prefer Aurelie

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/08/2022 16:43

I quite like it, but it’s getting v popular so I think it will date. Cordelia maybe?

toastofthetown · 12/08/2022 18:05

Aurelia is a really lovely name. It may well date, but I think most names will date to a greater or lesser extent. Unless you choose a name so classic/boring that it’s never left the top hundred (which for girls leaves you only with Elizabeth), something from another culture which has no generation associations in the UK, or something so different that it doesn’t fit into any trend or micro-trend, a name will probably date. Names have fashions just like anything else, and just like you can probably tell a kitchen was installed 30 years ago, even if it’s in a ‘classic’ white cupboards and wood counters look, names as a group will date too.

There was a long thread on this a little bit ago, if you are interested in more opinions.

Hobbesmanc · 14/08/2022 12:52

It's lovely. I think classical feminine names don't really date. Like Julia or Lydia. Very pretty. I like Audrey or Audra too.

AllyCatTown · 28/12/2022 07:36

I think it’s nice but quite a mouthful. It could date in that it groups in with current trends but I don’t think that’s necessarily bad.

FrostyPaws · 28/12/2022 11:38

I know of two celeb/influencer types with an Aurelia so I do think it is in the trendy and will date category BUT I love it anyway. I don’t think it’ll get to 3 in every class levels by any stretch. Love Azaelia too.
