Keziah or Cassia?

Keziah is a Old Testament girl's name, which has the same meaning as Cassia, which has a Greek origin.

Which do you prefer?

Traditional nickname for Keziah is Kizzy, and Cassia Cassie.

I'm gobsmacked at the number preferring Cassia here. MN is usually quite hot on spotting daftness with name choices😐 I doubt any of you would think Nutmeg, Cloves, or Cinnamon was a good name choice 🥴

I just feel like Cassia is an, at the moment, trendy name which will date easily and to me, appreciate this is subjective, is silly. Keziah doesn’t float my boat either.

What is that based on? Darkgreener names show that since 1996 it has been used a maximum of 33 times in one year, so it has not hit a peak to be able to 'date'. Can it be trendy if it's hardly being used?

I've met one Cassia and never met a Keziah, think you're safe on popularity. Both are nice. The nutmeg/cinnamon point above is silly, there are loads of edible plant names out there, and Cassia has other etymologies too.

RockinHorseShit · 31/07/2022 15:04

@JasmineAndSalt

The other herbal type names are pretty, floral plants, not muddy looking bits of old bark that is a poor man's cinnamon 🙄

lulalulalula · 31/07/2022 15:15

@RockinHorseShit Take a look at the types of flowering plant in the Cassia genus, just because you think only of the bark part of the tree doesn’t make the name ‘muddy looking’, there is more to a plant than its bark. With that way of thinking no one should name their child Willow or any other tree name in case it conjures up images of the trunk.

Depends if you like Cassie or Kizzie more imo. I prefer Cassia but only because I went to a school with a Kizzie who was a bullying bitch so bad connotations.

LT2 · 31/07/2022 15:19

Cassia. I've thought about this for a future daughter.

Friffle · 31/07/2022 16:06

'poor man's cinnamon' made me lol

I'm imagining umbrage being taken in the spice drawer when cassia hears that!

Keziah gets my vote. It was very nearly DD2's name as I've always loved the book, The Diddakoi.

BloodyCamping · 01/08/2022 23:28

Cassia is beautiful

greenteafiend · 02/08/2022 14:15

Cassia sounds like the name of a company or product, or perhaps a tropical root vegetable (am I thinking of casova?)

Keziah is a nice feisty name, and an old name as well.
