How about Claudia?

The meaning isn't very nice, but does it matter? I like that it's old, biblical, familiar but not overly popular.

I've never considered it today (it was in a TV show I was watching) so just putting the feelers out for general thoughts.

I like it and the meaning wouldn't bother me one iota.

I love the name and I really don't think the Latin meaning would be the first thing people would associate it with! Reminds me of Interview With The Vampire Smile

I'm not actually considering Mallory or Marnie - just a trip down memory lane with the Babysitter's Club 😁

The thing is that no one knows the meaning of names. We've never had anyone mention the meaning or ask what it means or point out it means lame (maybe they're being polite of course) but in all honesty it hasn't caused any issues. DD couldn't care less, she likes being the only one and she also likes the fact she shares the same name as Claudia Winkleman🙂. I would 100% choose it again if I had my time over again.

It's definitely growing on me, a few months ago I would of said no way, but I've thought about it a few times after seeing it mentioned here and I now think I quite like it

I ADORE Claudia - I know an adult Claudia who shortens to Dia which is very pretty/unusual too.

SundayTeatime · 29/07/2022 14:40

I really like it. I find it strong, classic, and not common or twee. It’s a great name.

SashaMannDeservedBetter · 29/07/2022 14:48

Makes me think of the little vampire girl from Interview with a vampire. I do like it though.

I like Claudia - to me it always meant a bit aristocratic as it came from the Julio-Claudii family who were about the most blue blooded in ancient Rome. If the associations are putting you off what about Clelia which doesn't sound too dissimilar and means "glorious"?

mistermagpie · 29/07/2022 15:38

I know a little one and an adult one and had no idea about the meaning. I don't even know what my own name 'means' to be honest, I don't think people really think about these things in real life.

I love the name, it's classic but not overused and pretty without being wishy washy.

Keyboardist · 29/07/2022 19:51

It's my favourite name. Still hate DH for saying no to it

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/07/2022 23:30

Adore Claudia - imo classy sounding, elegant and so underused for some reason (in the UK at least, I think it's more popular internationally).

I personally don't think the "meaning" matters much - for a start unfortunately less people than ever study Latin these days (and even if they did/do, surely they'd think of the Ancient Roman women named Claudia rather than "that means lame"?), as well as the fact an unfortunate meaning doesn't seem to have affected the popularity of James/Jacob, Emily, Maria...

Beachy10 · 05/08/2022 21:03

I love the name Claudia and it's on my list of names if we have a girl but I keep taking it off because of the meaning. Reading these posts has made me out it back on

Madamecastafiore · 05/08/2022 21:04

Beautiful and unusual in these times.

Purpleavocado · 05/08/2022 21:12

My name meaning has never come up in conversation, I can't imagine anyone googling your baby's name and then laughing at you! Claudia is a lovely name.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 05/08/2022 21:23

I do like it, but only pronounced "cloud-ier". The "claw" sound in the "clawd-ier" pronunciation grates far more for me than the name meaning.

resm · 05/08/2022 21:27

Wasn’t aware of the meaning of the name tbh, wouldn’t let it bother me either as it’s a very striking name. Memorable, classic, beautiful. I think you should go for it.

Rodion · 05/08/2022 21:32

I love it! For some unknown reason i associated it with Tabitha, which I also love.

Antarcticant · 05/08/2022 21:53
