Pressed send too soon!!!
That should have said 'but I really love the name Eloise. Nickname not necessary but probably would get shortened to Ellie

Mollymalone123 · 22/07/2022 22:58

My DD was given Eloise as her middle name after ‘The Damned’s version of Eloise. Love it

Vicliz24 · 22/07/2022 23:08

I know one Eloise ( named for the Damned song ) she's always always been weezer which really suits her.

I know one called wheeze...

Me too! It is pretty cute though, nn wheezy.

jellymaker · 22/07/2022 23:13

We shorten it to lou

caringcarer · 22/07/2022 23:15

Lulu

Kite22 · 22/07/2022 23:17

Eloise is a really nice name.

Any nickname will evolve naturally after she is here if she has one, and won't necessarily be anything to do with her name.

SuperCamp · 22/07/2022 23:40

Lolo
Lowi
Elo
Lulu
Lou
Easy Peasy Eloisey

This.

Unless you are deliberately using a full name on the birth certificate but intending to always use a diminutive (e.g. Elizabeth to be known as Beth) you can't really pick a nickname. You'll naturally call her a selection of things that bear more and less relation to her actual name and one or two of those will stick.

Katela18 · 23/07/2022 07:36

I work with an Eloise, pretty name.

She gets called Elle, or Lulu.

I'm not sure "Essie" naturally comes from Eloise but then it doesn't need to, nicknames can be what ever you affectionately call your little one. My DD gets called Bunny or Buns and that's absolutely nothing to do with her name lol. Congratulations!

Lemonsyellow · 23/07/2022 08:10

The Eloise I know is Lulu.

DogsAndGin · 23/07/2022 08:12

I love the name Primrose! DH has vetoed it from our list 🥲 Eloise is nice - I think Ellie is more natural than Essie

Ghostlyfeet · 23/07/2022 08:47

I have an Eloise. Only thing it gets shortened to is Weez or Weezie by her cousins

Workawayxx · 23/07/2022 08:49

Love it! I would use full version and see what evolves but prefer El/Elle as nn as it feels the most natural.

GoAround · 23/07/2022 08:50

Love love love Eloise, it’s my DD’s middle name. I don’t get how you get Essie from it though, and why you’d even want to as it’s a bit Loch Ness Monster (sorry!). Nicknames evolve so don’t force it but Elle, Ellie, Lou, Lulu would all be nice.

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 23/07/2022 09:12

To be pedantic, it should be Eloïse as the o and the i are pronounced separately (like Anaïs or Noël).

But as for a nn, your DD's friends will choose their own nn for her, regardless of what you call her at home.

Piapea · 23/07/2022 09:13

Beautiful, my friend has an Eloise, usually called Lou.

Debsdonein · 23/07/2022 09:13

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/07/2022 22:10

In my head I'm singing Eloise by The Damned now (love that song and beautiful name)

Nothing more to add Grin

Snap. Haha.

Lovely name.

Lulu1919 · 23/07/2022 09:14

There's a few around ...I know 3 in one year group !!
But I love the name

Ontomatopea · 23/07/2022 09:14

Kghl03 · 22/07/2022 22:17

I was thinking Essie!

Not a natural shortening.

It will probably end up as El

PurBal · 23/07/2022 09:18

Everyone I know called Eloise is known as Eloise. I know 4.

AmandaMirandaPanda · 23/07/2022 09:24

El, Elle, Ellie, Elo, Lo, Lolo, Weezie, Weetzie.

AmandaMirandaPanda · 23/07/2022 09:31

I don't think Essie is too unrealistic, though - it's the same kind of progression as Melissa > Missy, Rosemary > Romy, Caroline > Callie, Margaret > Maggie, etc.

ChickenRat · 23/07/2022 09:32

I have an Eloise, she's 7 weeks old. Known as Ellie to family Smile

DorritLittle · 23/07/2022 09:32

I love the nickname Wheeze!
