Really stuck on a boys name and although Theo/Theodore is on our list, I'm not sure if it's too popular at the moment!
Is Monty too out there for a boy name?

Theodore is lovely, but agreed, a lot about! Monty is a dogs name to me unfortunately (Montague?) 😬

Saucery · 22/07/2022 17:44

Uncle Monty
Monty Python
the dog in 3 Men In A Boat (Montmorency)

But I am of that vintage, so maybe younger people wouldn’t have those associations. Grin

whatatanker · 22/07/2022 17:45

I love Monty. We would have chosen that for our last child, but alas, she was a girl. Honestly, though Monty is lovely. Go for it.

Princessoftheuniverse · 22/07/2022 17:48

It never sounds like a proper name to me. Just the shortened form I think it is.

Anewuser · 22/07/2022 17:49

Absolutely love Monty. Wanted to call my dog Monty.

Lulu1919 · 22/07/2022 17:50

I know a couple of boys with the name Monty ..they are around 8 years old

Rainbow28x · 22/07/2022 17:51

That was my worry that a lot of people would associate it as a dogs name 😂

DH would want a full name on the birth certificate, but nickname would probably be Monty!

I sort of see it as a joke name for a posh old man, like Algernon or Ignatious or a dog with the energy of a posh old man

Montgomerymmoose · 22/07/2022 18:38

We also had a dog called Monty .

WhackingPhoenix · 22/07/2022 18:44

The only Montys I’ve met have been dogs. 🐕

Riverlee · 22/07/2022 18:48

Love Monty as a nn for Montgomery (or Montague).

Mydogatemypurse · 22/07/2022 18:49

My dog is called monty or sir cadbury Montgomery

We must mix in very different circles.
I'm middle-aged with two school-aged children and I've never met a Monty and I suspect very few people in my locale have either.
Monty wouldn't go down to well and I'm positive he'd be the butt of jokes (I'm not condoning this).

Pac35 · 22/07/2022 18:51

I think monty is a great name 👌

SpiderVersed · 22/07/2022 18:54

As in Monty Don? Montgomery?

NoSquirrels · 22/07/2022 18:54

Despite knowing a couple, between 8-12 years old, it’s still a (posh) dog’s name to me. Probably a chocolate Labrador.

Sorry. Love Theo though.
How about Nathaniel (Nate/Nat)?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 22/07/2022 18:55

Way too twee for a grown young man imo

Camomila · 22/07/2022 18:55

DS1 was at nursery with a Monty, I think its nice and not too "out there". I'm not sure if he had a longer name on his birth certificate.

rahjama · 22/07/2022 18:58

When I hear Monty I either think dog or a stuck up, upper class child who's siblings are called Bartholomew and Cecelia.

PlanetNormal · 22/07/2022 18:58

Monty sit!
Monty walkies!
Monty fetch!

Who’s a clever boy? 🐶

welshpolarbear · 22/07/2022 19:00

We had a dog called Monty. But then again, there's a family dog called Theo!

I do know a child called Monty (short for Clement) and it actually works really well.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 22/07/2022 19:00

I have a nephew called Monty. Birth certificate says Montgomery but no one ever calls him that 😁

Go for it OP

MrsMop1964 · 22/07/2022 19:08

The Full Monty springs to mind, but I suppose younger people wouldn't think of that. ( Just made myself feel old googling how long ago the film was...1997!)

RuthW · 22/07/2022 19:08

Our dog was Monty.

Think it would be lovely if you called him Montgomery, nn Monty

Staynow · 22/07/2022 19:08

Mongomery is awful IMO but I love Monty. Reminds me of lovely evenings watching Gardeners world with Monty Don.
