Girls names

Hello everyone

I just had a positive 20 week scan (yay!!) so starting to let myself think properly about names for our 2nd baby. We’re not finding out the sex beforehand. I’d like to get some thoughts and opinions on my girls list please. I can change my mind constantly on girls names, I’m not sure how I’ll ever narrow my list down! My boys list is definitely much shorter and focused - I might post it later.

So here’s my girls list:
Juno

Cleo (not sure if the car connotations are still strong? I’d definitely go for this spelling.)

Rafaela (love nn Rafi)

Cassia (love Cassie and Cass but feel they are a bit nicknamey as a full name)

Fiadh (pronounced Fee-ah. This is the one I think I may have spelling/pronunciation issues with as we live in London. I do love it and it’s meaning though)

Maeve

Sylvie ( I do like this a lot but I have a first name beginning with S and so does dd1, this puts me off a bit)

Eliza

Nina

Cora

Zoë - these last 4 names I think are the “safe” names that I can’t see many issues with other than I’m not sure I love them.

Thanks in advance

Cassia is fab. I wish so much I'd chosen it for my daughter. Love Cleo too.

AverageJoan · 21/07/2022 13:54

I like Cassia, Maeve and Cora best. I'm currently 29+5 and we are thinking Cassidy for a girl, nn. Cassie ☺️

20viona · 21/07/2022 13:54

Cleo is lovely. I prefer Maeva to Maeve.

Goneback2school · 21/07/2022 14:21

I have a Fiadh, it's gone extremely popular in Ireland and I don't think the pronunciation is too out there.
I know an adult Kasia, which I think is nice. My favourite of the remainder is Cleo.

TempsPerdu · 21/07/2022 14:59

Congratulations OP! You have some lovely names on your list - none that I actively dislike.

Juno - OK but possibly feels a bit trendy/ try hard

Cleo - love, and would be in the running if we had a 2nd DD. I do prefer the Clio spelling, like the muse, but can absolutely see the car issue so in practice would probably chicken out and spell it your way!

Rafaela - my least favourite of your list - too long and flouncy for me.

Cassia - beautiful. A bit on the girly side of my taste but can definitely see the appeal. Cassie makes a great nn.

Fiadh (pronounced Fee-ah) - very pretty but can see two possible issues: the pronunciation and its resemblance to the word ‘fear’ in certain accents. Probably wouldn’t use unless I had strong Irish links.

Maeve - bit of a trendy, flash in the pan name I think

Sylvie - nice, but again very trendy in certain circles (we recently met three of them on trip to Clissold Park!)

Eliza - very nice but feels a bit safe/bland compared to some of your other choices

Nina - fine but can’t warm to it because of the ‘nee naw’ thing

Cora - really like this - straightforward and pretty without being too girly

Zoë - possibly a bit safe but I do like it - again, simple and not too girly, with a bit of a strong/feisty edge to it

Tough choice but my shortlist would be Cleo, Cassia, Cora (I like C names!) and Zoe

CantaloupeMelon · 21/07/2022 15:02

My favourites of your list are Cassia, Sylvia, Cora and Zoe.

Mymoneydontjigglejiggle · 21/07/2022 15:02

Easy - go for Cassia! Gorgeous name.

CantaloupeMelon · 21/07/2022 15:02

Sorry Sylvie not Sylvia - autocorrect!

Krakinou · 21/07/2022 15:24

Love Cassia and Rafaela - both make me think of elegant and strong women. I’d probably go for Rafaela because I think Cass names are having a bit of a moment.

Ignoranceisbliss44 · 21/07/2022 16:26

Juno - I can't really take to this, but love Juniper.

Cleo - I quite like. Definitely prefer this spelling.

Rafaela - I've never met one, but quite like it.

Cassia - Pretty. I don't know of any. Also love the Kasia spelling.

Fiadh - I actually really like this. Having said that I find a lot of Irish names pretty - Aoife, Caoimhe and Saoirse.

Maeve - I prefer Maeva.

Sylvie - I'm neutral on this one, as in I can't decide if I like it or not.

Eliza - one of my favourites.

Nina - Perfectly fine. The siren association is dated as ambulances haven't made that sound for years (not that I've heard anyway!).

Cora - Really like this.

Zoe - not keen sorry, but only because I know an unpleasant adult one.

UsernameIsHarderThanBabyName · 21/07/2022 16:28

Love Maeve, Nina, Sylvie and Cassie (but not Cassia)

Aria999 · 21/07/2022 16:42

Juno and Cassia I like.

Rafaela is really interesting and I don't hate it.

Fiadh I think would cause you trouble though I like the sound. It would be forever being spelled or said wrong.

Don't really like any of the others much.

I detest Maeve.

Mumofgirls2017 · 21/07/2022 17:15

Ahhh 😌 love them all! Especially Juno, Cleo, Nina, Cora, Cassia, Eliza!

pilates · 21/07/2022 17:17

Sylvie and Eliza are my favourites

JulesJules · 21/07/2022 17:49

Love Cassia, nearly chose this for D2

Amdone123 · 21/07/2022 17:52

I love Juno, Maeve and Eliza. I don't really like the others, sorry.

User6761 · 21/07/2022 19:17

I like Cleo and Cora best.

I also really like the similar Cara.

I knew a Kasia (Ka-sha). Does Cassia have the same pronunciation - or is it Cass-ee-a?

DotDotDotDotDot · 21/07/2022 19:40

Thanks for all your comments everyone, a bit of a mixed bag as I expected. Cleo and Cassia seem quite well liked so far. I’d pronounce it Cas-see-a. I don’t like the Casha pronunciation to be honest. I’ve never met or known a Cassia ever so I think this makes me hold back on it a bit.

Lovely list!

Sorry, that probably doesn't help 😂

Confusedteatowel · 22/07/2022 00:18

Re Cleo, it is one of the few names that there are two of at our nursery (in London). Idk if that is an issue. Also might just be coincidence 🤷‍♀️

Somatronic · 22/07/2022 00:25

@TempsPerdu calling Maeve a flash in the pan name makes me chuckle. It's a very old Irish name (Anglicised of course) and means "she who intoxicates" which is pretty cool. Queen Medb was a major figure in Irish mythology and was a bit of a badass. Google her.

It's a strong, traditional name. I love it, especially Irish spellings.

Cleo and Sylvie are pretty too.

teaorcoffee6 · 22/07/2022 01:39

I love them all apart from Juno.
Live live Rafi

Luxa · 22/07/2022 02:20

I like Cassia, Juno and Maeve

Princessoftheuniverse · 22/07/2022 02:53

I like Maeve and Eliza. I like Rafi but not Rafaela but I’d want a proper name on the birth certificate not a shortened form so I probably wouldn’t use it.

Qwertysfine · 22/07/2022 03:04

I think either Sharon or Tracy would be best for you .
