Which one sounds better

Stuck on which one of these options I prefer. I live in Ireland so the problem of spelling and pronunciation isn’t a worry.

Róisín or Rose?

We like either and it’s our main choice but we don’t know which one sounds best. She may have problems abroad with her name with spelling etc but there’s ways around that.

All opinions welcome 😊

I really like the name Róisín, and Rose is getting so commonplace now that it is starting to feel a bit 'meh', especially when there's a better option. 100% Róisín for me!!

ChagSameachDoreen · 20/07/2022 18:49

Roísin is a stunning name.

ChagSameachDoreen · 20/07/2022 18:49

Sorry - Roísín!

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/07/2022 18:49

Rose - is a lovely classic, albeit overused - maybe Rosanna? Or the Cornish version Rosen (Ro-zen).

Roisin reminds me of Maureen and Irene (the Eye-reen pronunciation) - it’s just drab. Also a PITA if you aren’t in Ireland

Irridescantshimmmer · 20/07/2022 19:00

Roisin

17caterpillars1mouse · 20/07/2022 20:15

I much prefer Roisin and know a lovely 16 year old Roisin. Rose is ok but a bit overdone as a first name and majorly overdone as a middle name

irelandbabynames · 21/07/2022 01:24

I’m not too keen on many of the Rose variants. I kind of like Roseanne and an old name in the family is Rosina. I wouldn’t have thought Rose was popular as a first - I mostly hear it as a middle! It’s nice to see it’s coming back. Róisín has fallen out of popularity I believe, but I don’t really care too much about rankings.

I love Rose. So simple and elegant.

Footbal · 21/07/2022 09:34

I'm Irish and I prefer Rose. Can't stand it as a middle name but beautiful for a first name. Very elegant.

SycamoreTall · 21/07/2022 11:48

I love Róisín - quite unusual for children now, but one that people tend to be familiar with. Beautiful and classy name, with great literary history.

If abroad, it also has the advantage that she can say "call me Rose/Rosa/Rosie" if she prefers!

bluekostree · 21/07/2022 11:51

I prefer Rose as I feel that Roisin is quite an old fashioned Irish name. I don't know anyone under 40 with it. Also it annoys me when people pronounce it differently like Rosheen or Rawsheen.

LizzieAnt · 22/07/2022 01:23

I'm the opposite in that I only know younger Róisíns.
Róisín's been in the top 40 girls' names in Ireland for the last 30 years or so. I don't think it old-fashioned.

DramaAlpaca · 22/07/2022 01:59

I'm in Ireland. I prefer Rose. I like the look of Róisín on paper, but the sound isn't quite as nice.

How about Róise as a compromise between the two? It's a lovely modern Irish name that's not too popular.

kirkandpetal · 22/07/2022 02:19

What about Rosalind as an alternative?

Princessoftheuniverse · 22/07/2022 02:28

What about Rosa rather than Rose . One of my favourite names.

I like Róisín too. I know a twenty five year old Róisín. Don’t think there was ever another in her school and I’ve never taught one so don’t think it can be that popular in England.

teezletangler · 22/07/2022 02:43

Isn't it pronounced Rosheen?
