Parineeti?

What do you think of this Sanskrit Indian name? It can also be spelt as Pariniti but I think this spelling will create pronunciation issues.

I’ve never encountered it before. How is it pronounced? Which syllable is the emphasis on?
And are there any nicknames you/school friends would use, or would you always use her full name?

DramaAlpaca · 10/07/2022 16:19

I prefer the alternative spelling, it looks much nicer written down. Pretty name.

summersummer2022 · 10/07/2022 16:20

@Krakinou It’s like paree-nee-tee
I like the full name as it is but would be open to nicknames, whatever forms naturally!

I’d go for Parineeti. The actress called that will have brought the name to many, albeit the reach of Indian cinema may be beyond a lot people in Britain. It’s a very pretty name.

Krakinou · 10/07/2022 16:29

I think the Parineeti spelling is better at indicating the pronunciation then.
As for whether it’s a nice name…. I think the sound is pretty, but having not heard it before I don’t have any preconceptions. I think that’s a nice thing about an unusual name - your daughter will make it completely her own (in non-Indian communities at least).

What do you like about it? Does it have any special meaning to you?

CredibilityProblem · 10/07/2022 16:31

Unusual, obviously but I can't see any problems with it.

I think it would be a weird choice for a white British family with no Indian heritage, but assuming that's not your situation then go for it.

summersummer2022 · 10/07/2022 17:05

We are South Asian so it fits our heritage :)

Beautiful name.

With the spelling, I suppose if you want to be more certain people will pronounce it 'Parinneaty' rather then "Parinnitty" then go for Parineeti.

I like both versions a lot.

summersummer2022 · 10/07/2022 18:08

@Krakinou Thank you! I love the sound of it and we both wanted a long name which can be shortened.

Luredbyapomegranate · 10/07/2022 23:01

I like it, I’d use the spelling you suggest as pronunciation is clearer

Pari would be the obvious diminutive and is also very nice

summersummer2022 · 11/07/2022 10:01

i think Parineeti is probably the best spelling choice for the pronunciation that I’m looking for

FridayiminlovewithRobertSmith · 11/07/2022 10:12

I think it’s a pretty name. ( For what it’s worth I’d still assume the “ee” pronunciation with the “Pariniti” spelling)

summersummer2022 · 11/07/2022 11:15

@FridayiminlovewithRobertSmith Do you also think the Pariniti spelling looks better than Parineeti?

OP posts:
FridayiminlovewithRobertSmith · 11/07/2022 11:29

I do personally prefer the Pariniti spelling but either way it’s a lovely name. 😊

FlamingoDust · 11/07/2022 19:00

A pretty name! Both spellings are nice but for me parineeti edges it as I think people would know to pronounce ee rather than i

ChagSameachDoreen · 11/07/2022 19:01

Very pretty. I also like Prakriti.

@Trainfromredhill Christ, you’re rude, and ignorant. It is not a made-up name or one formed by randomly grabbing scrabble tiles. It’s a name from another culture. Badly done, very badly done.

Happynow · 12/07/2022 00:14

I like Pariniti ... would not change to the double ee

HopeItzNothing · 12/07/2022 00:16

OP why are you asking a predominantly white women forum about an Indian name, considering you are Indian and have Indian family that can give you better responses?
That know and understand the name.

Look at the racist above calling it a Scrabble name!

Parineeti.
Don't spell it another way or some will find excuses to deliberately mis-pronounce it.

I'm not white!
Clown how dare you make assumptions about my race.

HopeItzNothing · 12/07/2022 00:57

I am south Asian
That's why I'm advising her not to waste her time in this forum
She's better off asking her British south Asian family

Shasha28 · 12/07/2022 01:01

I like Pari but not Parineeti. It's the "neet" sound I don't like

Shasha28 · 12/07/2022 01:02

The poster above is being quite ignorant.

The UK is a multicultural society and children growing up there will presumably have friends and family from many different cultures and backgrounds. We don't only value people with the exact same heritage as us.
