A middle name for Tamar

Sorry to start another Tamar thread, but usually when I ask a question on a current thread it's missed by most of the new posters!

What middle name do you think goes well with Tamar (pronounce the Hebrew way - like T'mahr)?

My other daughter is called Tabitha - are these names too similar? I don't want to give away other children's names as too outing but they're also biblical and varying levels of popularity).

Thank you! 😊

River
Bridget

I'd use Tamara, although I think Tamar is lovely, but she'll have people calling her Tamar

You can’t use River!
Miriam
Ruth
Elena

It will never be pronounced properly which would put me off before I ever got to thinking about a middle name I'm afraid.

I don't live in the UK so will be pronounced properly 99% of the time. Will just need to let British family and friends know the correct pronunciation when we visit the UK.

I love Tamar Miriam!

How about whether Tamar and Tabitha are too similar?

(I dont like Tamara, a bully at my school was called Tamara!)

Tamar is a boys name. My Israeli friend is called Tamar

I assumed Tamar was for a boy? I was going to suggest Tamar Joshua. I don't think Tabitha and Tamar are too similar if boy / girl siblings

However I've not seen your other post and other posters are suggesting Tamar is for a girl. In that case I think they do seem similar and I'm not a fan. I would give her a girly name like Isobel so she has options as an adult (and would be envious of my sister's name)

Tamar is a biblical girl's name. Perhaps its sometimes used as a unisex name but it's very much normally a girl's name, including in Israel.

Tamar is the number 1 girl's name in Israel. So yes it's a girl's name.
Mine is pronounced Taymar and her middle name is Sarah (in case she hates her unusual name when older). But she's named after the river not the Biblical name.

Ouchmytoe100 · 02/07/2022 11:56

In fact, I believe it's the most commonly used Israeli baby girl name in recent years!

Thoughts on:

  • Tamar Phoebe (another biblical favourite but thought it was too popular for first name)
  • Tamar Genevieve (husband's favourite name, but we only like the British pronunciation, but reluctant to use as a first name as we have a lot of French friends here and seems a bit embarrassing to use a mispronounced French name!)
  • Tamar Beatrix (this name just makes me happy!)

I also find people automatically pronounce it your way? So don't worry about that either.

Tamar Elizabeth?
