Thoughts on Lois? I think it's sweet for a little girl and strong sounding for a woman. Underused but not 'out there'. What do you think? Do you know any?

My late mother's name. She used to get mad sometimes when people mispronounced it to rhyme with rejoice.. Had they not heard of Lois Lane, she would ask.

I would pronounce Lois Lane as Loyce. (Welsh🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿)

I know one in her 30’s. She’s lovely.
Great name! I pronounce it as Low is

@SummerPuddings there was another Jewish Grandmother name beginning with L that should have been on the list but couldn't remember what it was, but it suddenly came to me: Lorelei !

Love it!

@Justkeeppedaling

That’s not how the character’s name is pronounced though?

I've always liked it. I've met a few over the years who would be in their 20s or 30s by now. It's the kind of name that's familiar to most people but unusual at the same time. It also has a soft sound and I appreciate the Biblical significance.

Perhaps it depends on your location, but I've only heard it pronounced Low-is.

Lois has been my favourite woman’s/girl’s name since I was about 10! Love it!

I really love it, but popularity definitely depends on where you live (if that matters to you) - I'm in Scotland and it's super popular here, I know loads!

My middle name. I love it

pixiebex86 · 27/06/2022 14:07

I moved to Wales and teachers would pronounce it the Welsh way! It used to annoy me soooo much.
The best way is the lois lane way!!!
